A real review of a Sokcho sundubu (soft tofu) spot that fills you up from breakfast onward — Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu

Why Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is worth a stop for soft tofu in Sokcho
When there's an entire village built around one kind of food, that's worth a stop while traveling, right? So this time I visited a Sokcho sundubu restaurant that's been run by three generations for over 30 years, keeping its nutty, clean flavor with 100% domestic soybeans and deep ocean water.

How to get to Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu, and where to park
Close to Sokcho IC, Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu sits in the Haksapyeong tofu village of Nohak-dong, right at the entrance of the old Misiryeong road. There's a large lot with room for cars and even big buses, so I could park without worrying about fees.

Inside Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu: building, dining room and seating
The sign announcing house-made tofu and certified 100% domestic soybeans caught my eye — the building shows its age but still looked clean.

A double-door setup separates the space, and there's even a roomy area for tea after the meal, which gave a sense of the place's real size.

This Sokcho sundubu spot runs a wide hall divided into sections, so there are actually about twice as many tables as the photos suggest. There's group seating too, so it looked suitable for families as well as travel groups.
There's also a more private space, just so you know.
Various snacks made with tofu, scorched rice, sweet potato and the like are on offer too, so check those out if you're peckish.
House-made banchan (side dishes) and house-kimchi are set up as a self-serve corner so you can help yourself. You know the drill — only take what you'll actually eat.

What comes with the meal: side dishes and buckwheat pancake
Japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), braised potatoes, stir-fried anchovies, kimchi — the banchan alone filled half the table, making for a hearty meal.

It was just a taste, but they even served a buckwheat pancake, which really made it feel like a Gangwon-do trip.

🍜 What I ordered — jjamppong seafood sundubu (₩17,000), wild greens bibimbap (₩13,000)
Jjamppong seafood sundubu, 17,000 won
Simmered spicy in a vegetable broth loaded with abalone, shrimp, squid, and scallops, the jjamppong seafood sundubu seems to be one of Jinsol Halmeoni's signature dishes.

The chili oil wasn't overdone and the cheongyang chili gave just the right amount of heat — the kind of spicy that keeps pulling you back for another spoonful. And it comes with a generous helping of the silky Chodang sundubu made with domestic soybeans and deep ocean water — plenty of it, too.

Wild greens bibimbap, 13,000 won: five greens plus Chodang soft tofu
Looking past the sundubu options, I picked the wild greens bibimbap for something gentler on the stomach — you get chwinamul (aster greens), doraji (bellflower root), gosari (bracken fern), mungnamul (dried seasoned greens), and shiitake, each with its own texture and flavor intact, which I'd recommend to anyone who likes clean, nutty flavors.

And what I liked even more — it comes with a bowl of pale Chodang sundubu too. Warm, clean, and nutty, perfect alongside the bibimbap!

The seafood jjamppong had great depth, almost like sundubu stirred into it. The seafood added a refreshing, clean quality, making it as good for a meal as it would be as a drinking snack.
Whether you're with family or a group, there's enough variety in the sundubu options that everyone can eat what they like — a Sokcho sundubu spot that's easy to visit.
At first I was just spooning up the soft, clean, nutty sundubu, but soon I was pouring a whole bowl of rice straight into it — and the broth never turned cloudy, even after I finished the whole stone pot.

Greens used to be my least favorite banchan, but ironically I found myself seeking them out here, and even enjoying them — proof that tastes really do change.

The greens were seasoned simply, by hand, but they were soft and moist in a way that made them delicious. The gochujang (red chili paste) seasoning looked spicy but wasn't harsh, so the texture and flavor of the greens really came through.

Adding a bit of kimchi on top worked beautifully with the wild greens bibimbap — I fell for the combination all over again. I think I'll be craving this fragrant greens bibimbap next time I'm not feeling hungry for anything else.

Cleansing the palate now and then with a spoonful of the nutty white sundubu, I felt full but not heavy — plenty for a satisfying meal.
Final verdict on Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu in Sokcho
Traveling with kids or parents usually means the biggest headache is deciding what to eat. This Sokcho sundubu spot has enough variety that everyone can pick something to their taste, and between the flavors, textures, and clean banchan, I'd say it's worth stopping in at least once.
