I wanted a warm, satisfying meal near Seohyeon Station, so I visited Gangnam Gyoja Bundang Seohyeon Branch.

There are days when you just crave a hot, soupy dish like kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) or sujebi (hand-torn dough soup), and this was exactly one of those days. It felt like a shame to have just one thing, so we ordered spicy sujebi, kalguksu, and Gangnam bossam (boiled pork wraps) to try a little of everything. Gangnam Gyoja is known for its kalguksu and dumplings, so I had been curious about it for a while—and I was happy to find it in Seohyeon-dong, too.

A spread of kalguksu, sujebi, and bossam
There are so many good restaurants around Seohyeon Station, but sometimes you want noodles or sujebi in a hot broth rather than something strongly seasoned, you know? Especially on a slightly chilly day, or when you want a filling lunch, it is hard to beat kalguksu.
Gangnam Gyoja Bundang Seohyeon Branch has a straightforward menu, so it seemed like an easy place to visit for anyone who loves kalguksu or sujebi. The three dishes we ordered that day were spicy sujebi, kalguksu, and Gangnam bossam. Ordering the noodle dish, sujebi, and bossam together made for a more generous spread than I expected.

Straightforward, satisfying kalguksu

When you come to Gangnam Gyoja, you really have to try the kalguksu. It is warm and gently flavored rather than overpowering, so I think it would be a relatively easy choice no matter who you visit with. Once you start slurping up the noodles with the broth, a whole bowl seems to disappear in no time.
The balance of broth and noodles is especially important in kalguksu, and having them together in that hot broth made for a satisfying meal. If you cannot decide, go for the classic kalguksu; if you are visiting with several people, it could be nice to add sujebi, dumplings, or bossam to share.
If you love spicy broth, try the spicy sujebi

Kalguksu and sujebi seem similar, but their textures are definitely different once you eat them. The chewy sujebi in a spicy broth had a character all its own compared with regular kalguksu.
If you enjoy brothy dishes but prefer a peppery, spicy flavor to a clear and mild broth, the spicy sujebi will probably suit you well. A bite of sujebi followed by a spoonful of broth feels so warming from the inside out! Personally, the spicy sujebi was the dish that caught my attention most from everything we ordered that day.
Gangnam bossam alongside kalguksu

We ordered the Gangnam bossam because it felt a little disappointing to have only noodle dishes. I personally love pairing bossam with kalguksu at a noodle restaurant; having a brothy dish and a meat dish together makes the table feel much fuller.
A bite of kalguksu, a piece of bossam, then another spoonful of warm broth! Alternating like this kept the meal from feeling repetitive and let us enjoy a nice variety. If you visit as a pair, I think choosing either kalguksu or sujebi and ordering bossam to share would be a good option, too.
A warm meal near Seohyeon Station

When you are deciding on lunch or dinner near Seohyeon Station, it can feel like you always end up eating meat or strongly seasoned food. It had been a while since I had enjoyed a hot soup dish, and it left me feeling nicely full and satisfied with the meal.
In particular, the menu was an easy choice for anyone who likes warm, soupy dishes such as kalguksu and sujebi. If, like me, you have trouble picking just one, I recommend ordering both spicy sujebi and kalguksu to compare them. Add Gangnam bossam, and you have an even more generous meal :)
