Seongnam Korean BBQ with staff-grilled black pork: Jeju Monteurak

I visited Jeju Monteurak Bundang Sunae Branch, an easy place to drop by when you feel like having meat near Sunae Station. Since the staff grill the meat to the perfect point for eating, it was comfortable to chat over the meal instead of having to grill it ourselves. From aged black pork to a range of side dishes and doenjang-jjigae packed with seafood, we had a really satisfying meal.

A spacious Korean barbecue restaurant for get-togethers

The interior was spacious, with generously spaced tables, so it looked great for family meals as well as visits with a larger group. They also offer private hire, so it is worth keeping in mind when looking for a spot for a Bundang work dinner or group gathering.

Since they grill the meat for you, I loved that a date here does not mean being busy at the grill—you can simply talk and enjoy your meal comfortably. It is a great fit for anyone looking for a Korean barbecue restaurant in Seongnam or Bundang where the staff do the grilling.

And on Fridays, they even have a ₩500 soju, beer, and highball event!

Aged black pork and set menus

Jeju Monteurak had a variety of cuts, from aged black pork to white pork. You can order individual cuts such as ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), special pork neck, and fresh ribs, while the black pork bansang and hansang sets are nice for sharing a little of everything with a group. There was also a wide range of sides that go well with meat, including kimchi-jjigae, Jeju seafood doenjang-jjigae, Jeju pork noodle soup, minari kimchi fried rice, and perilla-oil makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles).

Aged black pork special neck that was not dry

My favorite dish that day was the aged black pork special neck. The staff handled everything from grilling it to bringing it to the ideal point for eating, which was so convenient. They also grilled mushrooms, white kimchi, and asparagus beautifully alongside the meat.

The pork neck in particular was wonderfully tender without feeling dry at all, so I loved it from the first bite. It was softer and tastier than I expected, and I felt a little sad as it ran out, so we added one serving of ogyeopsal.

The ogyeopsal had a rich flavor and a satisfyingly chewy rind, giving it another kind of appeal. The ogyeopsal was savory and delicious too, but if I had to recommend just one, it would be the aged special pork neck!

The fun of pairing meat with banchan

A variety of banchan came with the meal, which made it fun to try different combinations with the meat. It was good with myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves), shredded scallions, and white kimchi, and the bracken fern shoots were especially good grilled on the barbecue. I first enjoyed the meat's own flavor with a simple dip in salt or sauce, then added the side dishes one by one, which kept every bite interesting.

You cannot leave out something brothy when eating meat, right? The Jeju seafood doenjang-jjigae came with a bowl of rice and was more generous than I expected, packed with seafood such as shrimp and scallops. Its savory yet refreshing broth was perfect for taking spoonfuls of between bites of meat, and with rice, it made an ideal finishing dish. If I were ordering meat here, this is a combination I would personally recommend adding!

Comfortable black pork dining near Sunae Station

Because the staff grill everything, we could dine comfortably while enjoying a well-rounded spread from aged black pork to all the accompanying side dishes. The particularly tender aged black pork special neck is something I would order again on my next visit.
