Jeju Dongmun Market snack shop: four oranda flavors compared

There's always one thing you end up worrying about toward the last day of a Jeju trip — what souvenir or snack to bring home haha. On this trip too, we decided to pick up something to share with family before heading back.

Lately a lot of people coming back from Jeju trips have been buying oranda, so I got curious and looked it up — that's how I ended up at Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong (청춘이오란다 동문시장본점 탑동). It's inside Jeju Dongmun Market, so it was easy to stop by while wandering the market on our last day.

Where is Cheongchuni Oranda? Between Dongmun Market Gates 2 and 9

Cheongchuni Oranda is inside Jeju Dongmun Market, so it wasn't hard to find while browsing the market. It sits between Gates 2 and 9. If you're driving and parking, go in through Gate 8 and walk a short way to the right — the shop comes right into view!

It was a convenient spot for us too, stopping by on our last day in Jeju to pick out snacks and gifts to take home. Once inside, there were more types of oranda than I expected.

You could also see oranda being made right in the back — since it's a shop that makes and sells them fresh, it felt like it would taste even better! The lineup of products and the variety of gift set combinations made browsing fun too.

Which oranda flavors are there? Yuzu, nut, gamtae and garlic

Cheongchuni Oranda sells not just oranda but also other traditional snacks like gwajul (a fried and glazed rice snack). Oranda in particular comes in several flavors — yuzu, nut, mareung (garlic), and gamtae (seaweed) — so you can choose according to your taste. Rather than buying just one flavor, I wanted to try a few. So I went with the set that includes all four flavors!

The yuzu had a subtle, refreshing citrus scent, and the nut flavor had a nutty richness that made it easy to eat without feeling heavy. The nut one also had great texture — crunchier and nuttier, probably the flavor older family members would like best.

The gamtae flavor had a faint ocean scent and a salty edge, giving it a different feel from typical oranda. The mareung (garlic) had that distinct garlic flavor coming through, so it wasn't just sweet — a nice change of pace.

The individually wrapped gift set as a Jeju souvenir

I wanted to try the different flavors myself and also bring some home to share with family, so I bought the individually wrapped gift set. Since several of us would be eating together, small individual packs seemed way more convenient than one big shared pack.

Back home, we actually shared them one by one with family, and having several flavors made it fun to pick and choose haha. Being individually wrapped made it easy to grab whichever flavor you felt like, and it was also convenient for storing the leftovers. Once I mentioned it was a snack from Jeju, everyone had fun trying a piece each and deciding which flavor was best.

Is oranda hard to chew? Cheongchuni's is on the soft side

When I think of oranda, I first picture the hard, dense snack I used to eat years ago, but Cheongchuni Oranda's version was softer to bite into than I expected, which I liked. The outside had a crisp feel while the inside wasn't too hard, making it a good snack to pair with coffee or tea.

Since each flavor had a different aroma and character, it felt less like eating one or two and being done, and more like comparing them side by side haha. Personally, flavors like gamtae and yuzu felt like something you can really only get in Jeju, which made them good as souvenirs. We kept a batch at home and went through them pretty quickly, one piece at a time.

Cheongchuni Oranda was the place I found while looking for a snack to bring home on the last day of my Jeju trip! Being inside Dongmun Market made it easy to stop by while browsing, and the variety of oranda flavors meant I could pick and choose.
