I visited Deureomtong Sotttukkeong Dakdoritang, a well-known bar-restaurant in Noheung-dong, for a drink with a friend.

What dakdoritang options does Deureomtong in Noheung-dong offer?
Besides the sotttukkeong dakdoritang (chicken stew cooked in a cauldron lid), they also sell mukeunji dakdoritang, hanwoo large-intestine dakdoritang, kkotdoritang, and more! On top of that there's dakhanmari kalguksu and dakgalbi too, so there's a wide range of food to choose from.

Hours 11:00 - 03:00 (Break time 15:00 - 16:30)

The inside of Deureomtong, a well-known spot in Noheung, Jeju, is really spacious and clean, so it looks good for family gatherings or company dinners too! Of course it's also great for dates or hanging out with friends...

Each table has a sizeable drum-barrel stove, which made an impression. It couldn't have been easy to maintain, but it's kept spotless!

Ordering the sotttukkeong dakdoritang and king pork cutlet
The main menu alone was already making my mouth water, but the menu also had a ton of side dishes! After looking at some blog reviews and seeing how good the king pork cutlet looked, I ordered the signature sotttukkeong dakdoritang for two and the king pork cutlet.

You order through the tablet at each table. I didn't know you could adjust the spice level, but if you want it spicy you can change it for free! Neither of us handle spicy food well, so we went with the basic flavor haha

The side dishes came out quickly. Kimchi, gochu-ji, onion pickle, and macaroni corn salad. Feels like a solid lineup to pair with the generous dakdoritang, right?

If you run low on side dishes while eating, you can refill from the self-serve bar. Personally I prefer a self-serve setup since you can just scoop up whatever you like. We had some macaroni to protect our stomachs before diving into the spicy dakdoritang~

A 10-minute wait for a generous pot of dakdoritang
The sotttukkeong dakdoritang we'd been waiting for arrived. It comes out on a big cauldron lid, and the portion is really generous!

I thought we could eat right away, but it needs to simmer for 10 minutes first! Both of us were pretty hungry, so waiting 10 minutes was tough haha. While stirring it around as we waited, we noticed there was already plenty of chicken plus rice cakes, quail eggs, and other good things to pick at, even without adding extra toppings!

The king pork cutlet that arrives first
While waiting for the dakdoritang to simmer, the king pork cutlet arrived. This place must have hit the zoom-zoom button, because the cutlet is seriously huge... The look of it is exactly that old-school gyeongyangsik (Western-style Korean) pork cutlet vibe!

We were hungry and curious about this dish, so I took a bite right away! It's exactly the style of pork cutlet I ate as a kid — total nostalgia hit!

Instead of being thin and widely fried, it had a thick chunk of meat inside, so it had a good chew to it. The mildly tangy sauce was more than enough to boost the appetite! By this point the dakdoritang was starting to bubble too...

Still 3 minutes left... After that agonizing wait, we finally scooped the dakdoritang onto a plate!

How spicy is the garlic-heavy broth?
I tried the broth first, and it had a strong garlic flavor with real spice — total drinking food! If dakdoritang is too sweet it's really hard to eat, but this one had a subtle sweetness and a sharp spiciness that suited my taste perfectly!

Since it's dakdoritang after all, I tried the chicken too, and the meat was chewy while still staying tender! Personally the broth was really my thing, so I brought over some leftover rice from the pork cutlet and mixed it into the broth haha. Besides the chicken, the quail eggs were nutty and good, and the potatoes were nice and fluffy too haha. So I ate the drumstick, the rice cake inside, and even after all that—

The cheese fried rice cooked with a tableside fire show
The portion is huge... Even though we felt like we'd eaten quite a lot already, there was still a ton of meat and rice cake left to pick at... First off, there's no way we could skip fried rice in that seasoning, so we ordered the cheese fried rice!

They moved the remaining dakdoritang into a big bowl, kept a bit of the seasoning, and the owner came over to make the fried rice personally! If you order the cheese fried rice, you also get a fire show!

And so, the carefully made cheese fried rice!

The cheese stretches and stretches~

With seasoning that good, of course the fried rice was delicious too...!

Thanks to all that, we finished off a dinner where we were stuffed to bursting! I only just found out there's a place this distinctive, delicious, and generous in Noheung! It was even more satisfying because my friend enjoyed it so much too. If you're craving a hearty dakdoritang with a shot of soju near Noheung, give it a visit...
