Daehangno couple set dinner with omurice and soba maki: Omil Hyehwa

In short

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is an omurice and pasta restaurant on the second floor near Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station in the Daehangno area of Jongno, Seoul. For a dinner date, the couple set called Oh! set brought two mains plus a side and drinks: rubber-duck omurice, spicy flat iron steak risotto, soba maki (buckwheat noodle rolls), cider and cola. Portions at Omil were generous and the soba maki cleared the palate between the two rich mains, making the Oh! set a solid dinner for a couple sharing several dishes.

On a date with my boyfriend in Hyehwa, I wanted something special for dinner, so we went to Omil Hyehwa Daehangno. I'd wanted to try this place for a while because the rubber-duck omurice looked so cute, and since they happen to have a couple set that's great for two, we decided what to order ahead of time.

Omil is a great spot for a Daehangno date course — walk out of Hyehwa Station Exit 4 and you'll see it right there, so it wasn't hard to find at all.

Is the Omil Hyehwa interior good for a date?

The moment I walked into the second-floor space at Omil Hyehwa Daehangno, it felt kind of intricately put together, fitting the name. The space itself is decorated in a cute, detailed way with little props scattered around, so it was fun just looking around, and it seemed like a good spot for a date or a blind date.

What comes in the Oh! set couple set, and is it enough for two?

What we ordered at Omil Hyehwa Daehangno was the couple set called Oh! set. As below, it comes with two mains plus a side and drinks.

  • Rubber-duck omurice
  • Spicy fan steak risotto
  • Soba maki
  • Cider, cola

Since the set is more of a deal than ordering à la carte, we went with the couple set. It was the Oh! set, and with two mains plus a side dish and drinks all included, it felt like great value for money. But seriously, the portion was huge...

After ordering, the dishes came out one by one after a short wait. Just look at how flashy the visuals are — every time another plate landed on the table, they were all so cute and pretty that I was busy taking photos.

Rubber-duck omurice: does it taste as good as it looks?

The one that caught my eye the most was, of course, Omil Hyehwa Daehangno's rubber-duck omurice. Insanely cute.

How am I even supposed to eat this 🥺 The quail-egg shape was one thing, but the little duck next to it was so cute. And you're allowed to take it home(!)

So precious and adorable..💛 I thought it looked cute even in photos, but once it landed on the table in person, it was the kind of visual that made me want to take yet another photo.

Personally, I was a little worried since cute-looking menu items sometimes only look good but taste just okay — but the taste was actually really good too.

Scoop up a big spoonful of rice, get it coated in sauce, add a quail egg on top, and it's delicious.

How is the spicy flat iron steak risotto at Omil?

And then there was the spicy fan steak risotto we ordered together. Just like the name says, it's a risotto with fan-shaped steak in it — you get to eat the meat along with it, and thanks to the spiciness, even though it's creamy, it never felt heavy or overwhelming.

I liked the thick, rich sauce, and above all, eating it with a bit of tomato and grated cheese on top gave a sweet, tangy, spicy, savory combination that worked really well.

Out of everything we ordered, this was most my style.

Soba maki, the surprise side of the Oh! set

We just ordered this as a side, but this soba maki turned out to be surprisingly good. At first I wasn't sure what soba maki even was, but it turned out to be buckwheat noodles rolled in seaweed, gimbap (seaweed rice roll) style. Eating just the omurice and risotto could get a bit heavy, but having some soba maki in between cleared the palate nicely.

The egg inside in particular was thick and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness, pairing well with the buckwheat noodles. Come on, even the egg is cute? That's what made me feel like Omil is really great for a Hyehwa date or blind date — they pay attention to these small, detailed touches of cuteness 💛

Adding a little wasabi on top gives it a different kind of charm too, haha.

Is Omil worth it for a Daehangno dinner date?

Omil Hyehwa Daehangno is great for a casual meal, making it a good spot before or after watching a play in Hyehwa, or for a date or blind date. Above all, the menu variety, the cuteness, and the overall atmosphere left a strong impression.

If you're on a date in Hyehwa and want something a bit cute to eat, or want to share several dishes with someone, it seems worth stopping by Omil Hyehwa Daehangno.
