If you're looking for a pasta spot in Gwangju, you have to check this place out. It's Bueokgan Sangmu Branch! It's famous in Gwangju for having a great atmosphere, so I'd been curious for a while, and I finally visited.
Cutting to the conclusion... 100% would return!
Interior like a hotel restaurant
The taste was great, but the first thing that catches your eye the moment you walk in is the interior. The space is decorated so beautifully I wondered whether this was a pasta place or a hotel restaurant.

The overall vibe is stylish and upscale but not too stiff, so it looked great for a date, for a special meal with friends, or even for a family dinner out.
I was taking pictures like crazy even before the food arrived haha. When you go somewhere pretty, you take like a hundred photos before the food even shows up... I'm not the only one, right? 😂 Every table and corner had such good lighting that I felt like a photo would come out nice no matter where I sat. So a meal here naturally turns into a long photo session too.
What's the menu like?
But honestly, it'd be a bit of a letdown if the place only had good vibes. Luckily, Bueokgan's food was genuinely delicious too.
The menu was more varied than I expected. From steak to pasta, risotto, and even lasagna and gnocchi — dishes you don't easily find at other restaurants — plus wood-fired pizza. In short, the range of choices is wide, so it seems like a good pick no matter who you're visiting with.

The menu I picked that day was lasagna and rocket prosciutto wood-fired pizza! I really enjoyed both.
Lasagna
First up, the lasagna!

If you like lasagna, you know it's surprisingly hard to find a place that does it well. But Bueokgan's lasagna was satisfying from the very first bite. The sauce, cheese, and lasagna sheets came together harmoniously — rich and savory, but not over-seasoned, so I kept going back for more.
The portion was also more generous than I expected, which was nice. At pretty restaurants, portions can sometimes be a bit skimpy, but here I could eat heartily without worrying about that.
Rocket prosciutto wood-fired pizza
And the rocket prosciutto wood-fired pizza we ordered alongside it! I really want to recommend this one too. Since it's baked in a wood-fired oven, the crust has great flavor and texture, and with rocket (arugula) and prosciutto on top, it has a different charm from a regular pizza.
Rocket's slightly bitter edge and prosciutto's salty savoriness go well with the pizza, and combined with the clean-tasting crust, I kept reaching for more. I personally prefer a crust that's appropriately chewy and lets the toppings shine rather than one that's thick and heavy like bread, and this pizza was exactly my style.
A bite of lasagna, then a slice of pizza! Pizza, then back to lasagna! Going back and forth like this, before I knew it the plates were nearly empty. 😂
How was the seasoning and portion size?
Both dishes were seasoned just right. Even tasty food can get tiring after a few bites if it's too salty or too intense, but Bueokgan's food was rich in flavor without being over-seasoned, so I could enjoy it all the way through. The portions were generous too — if two people visit and order two dishes, you'll be plenty full.
And with such a varied menu, I already found myself wanting to try other dishes next time.

This time I picked lasagna and wood-fired pizza, but now I'm curious about the steak, want to try the pasta and risotto, and I'm curious about the gnocchi too... I'm already planning my next visit's order. This is exactly the kind of place that pulls you back haha.
Is parking convenient?
One more thing I really liked: parking!

When looking for a nice-atmosphere restaurant in Gwangju, parking is often a headache, but Bueokgan Sangmu Branch has its own separate parking lot with 10+ spots, so I didn't have to worry much about it. A great restaurant that's also easy to park at earns extra points before you even walk in.
Parking really matters especially on days you're driving to eat. Being able to visit comfortably without getting worn out over parking before enjoying good food was a real plus.
Who should go here
Overall, this visit was really satisfying. Pretty interior, great atmosphere, great for photos, varied menu, tasty food, generous portions, and easy parking! Now you can see why I said 100% would return. 😍
I'd especially recommend it to anyone looking for a date spot. The atmosphere is so good it works for a special occasion, and it would suit anniversaries or birthdays when you want a bit of ambiance. Of course, you don't need a special occasion — it's a place that'll satisfy you any day you're craving good pasta and pizza.
Personally, I really loved the combination of lasagna and rocket prosciutto wood-fired pizza I had this time. Both had generous portions, seasoning was just right, and above all it was a genuinely enjoyable meal. If you like taking food photos, you'll probably love it even more — the space itself is so pretty that it's great for photos not just of the food but around the whole store.
A place that's both a great restaurant and a great atmosphere spot! If you're looking for a pasta place in Gwangju, or a restaurant with a great vibe in Sangmu district, I'd recommend Bueokgan Sangmu Branch. With such a varied menu — steak, pasta, risotto, lasagna, gnocchi, wood-fired pizza — I don't think you'd get tired of it even after multiple visits.
Next time I'm definitely trying something else. This time I started with lasagna and pizza, so next time maybe gnocchi or pasta... or should I go all in on the steak... already thinking about it. 🤣
In conclusion!
- Great atmosphere, confirmed!
- Great for photos, confirmed!
- Great pasta, confirmed!
- Love the varied menu!
- Generous portions!
- And the taste delivers!
- Parking is easy too!
