Beomeo-dong ramen restaurant for a weekday family dinner: Ryusenso
In short
Ryusenso Beomeo Branch is a Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen restaurant near the KBS broadcasting station in Beomeo-dong, Suseong, Daegu. On a weekday at 6pm the table seats were already full of students, so the family sat at the dachi bar seats and ordered Ryusenso ramen, the spicy Ryusenso Kara, katsudon, yaki gyoza and tori karaage. The broth at Ryusenso Beomeo Branch is rich enough to crave again once the weather turns cold, but the portions are so large that the sides went unfinished — order them sparingly.

The whole family went to Ryusenso in Beomeo-dong for Japanese ramen. I think it was around this time last year that I had Ichiran ramen in Japan — the kind of ramen you crave once the wind starts to pick up. I heard Ryusenso in Beomeo-dong was good, so we went to check it out.
Ryusenso brought its brand here after starting as the original shop in Haeundae, Busan, and becoming a nationally known ramen restaurant. Starting as a small shop in Haeundae, Busan, it built word of mouth purely on its rich, deep broth and came to be called the "ramen of a lifetime" among ramen enthusiasts. While staying true to authentic Fukuoka Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen, Ryusenso's own signature is cutting the greasiness and maximizing deep umami to suit Korean palates.

Where is Ryusenso Beomeo Branch, and what is parking and 6pm like?
Ryusenso Beomeo Branch is located toward KBS. Coming from Dalgubeol-daero, enter past the Baskin Robbins. As is typical for restaurants in this neighborhood, there's no dedicated parking space here either. You'll need to use a nearby public parking lot or the alley parking near KBS.
Given the location, there were a lot of middle and high schoolers, and when we arrived around 6pm on a weekday, the place was almost completely full of students! Because of that, I couldn't take photos of the restaurant at first — I only managed to snap some once most of the customers had cleared out.

Table seats, solo seats or dachi bar seats: what is the seating like?
Ryusenso Beomeo Branch has table seating too.

There's also plenty of seating set up for solo diners, which looked perfect for studying students, office workers, and anyone eating alone.

There were also dachi bar seats. When we first walked in, the tables were full, so we sat at the dachi bar.

The five dishes the family ordered at Ryusenso Beomeo Branch
We ordered Ryusenso ramen, spicy Ryusenso Kara, and katsudon as our mains, and added yaki gyoza (Japanese-style dumplings) and tori karaage (Japanese-style fried chicken) as sides in case the portions weren't enough.

Katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl)
Here's the katsudon.

It's a shame the crispiness of the fried cutlet didn't quite come through.

Ryusenso ramen: how rich is the tonkotsu broth?
This is the Ryusenso ramen. The broth was really rich — the kind of flavor I'll crave more once the weather gets colder. It's a taste that anyone, of any age, would like. This definitely wasn't the kind of ramen you can easily find in Daegu. In my book, it's the number one ramen in Daegu.

Ryusenso Kara: how spicy is it?
This is the Ryusenso Kara.

This is the one I ordered — a spicy version of the Ryusenso? The noodles were thin somen-style, cooked just right.

Finely sliced wood ear mushroom as a topping, and

scallions coming together made for a much richer flavor — on top of the deep flavor of the pork broth, of course. As for the sides we ordered besides that,

Tori karaage and yaki gyoza as sides
Here's the tori karaage. We ordered it thinking we might not have enough food, but the portion was bigger than expected, so we ended up leaving some. Truly a family of light eaters... haha

We also ordered yaki gyoza, but the ramen portions were bigger than we thought, so we left it all uneaten. Once we got home, I kept thinking about it with regret. Haha, next time we'll box up the leftovers!
