Sangsu Station pork belly with cheese egg soufflé: Dojeok Hapjeong

Today I'm introducing Dojeok, a pork belly restaurant in Hongdae that's a real Korean BBQ favorite!

It's a 5-minute walk from Sangsu Station. Even walking from Hongdae or Hapjeong, it wasn't far at all.

Free parking is available in front of the restaurant (4 spots). If it's full, you can park at the nearby public parking lot.

Open daily 16:00–00:30.

True to being a top pork belly spot in Hongdae, they even have two kinds of pork belly.

Mountain garlic leaves, generous from the start

What's really great here is that they give you a ton of mountain garlic leaves (myeongi namul) right from the start. Honestly, at every other BBQ place I've had to ask for refills because it ran out, but Dojeok's generosity is top tier~~

Pre-grilling done by an AI robot

At Dojeok, the initial grilling (chobeol) is done by an AI robot — isn't that just so cute?? A robot doing precise pre-grilling... that's got to be Dojeok's own special thing, right?? I'd never been to a place that pre-grills with a robot before, and it definitely made the meat crispy outside and juicy inside — so good.

It's plenty even for four people to eat!

The cheese-bomb steamed egg is a must-order

You absolutely must order the cheese-bomb steamed egg,,,, it's like a drug, my chopsticks just kept going back for more ㅠ It's super sweet with cheese + chili sauce, a can't-go-wrong combo❗️

The pork belly pre-grilled by the AI robot looks great from the color alone too. The staff grilled it for us directly so it was so convenient ^~^

The yukhoe is really nutty and delicious too.

The scored pork belly goes so well with the mountain garlic leaves too.

Final thoughts

I've been to a lot of BBQ places around Hongdae and Sangsu Station, but the pork belly at Dojeok is as plump and tender as it looks. The cheese steamed egg has a flavor that anyone with a kid's palate will love without question — sweet and fluffy (guys with girlfriends, take note❗️). It would also be great for a date or dinner appointment around Hongdae. The owner was also incredibly kind, and I was so satisfied with the taste of the meat that I hope you all get a chance to visit too!
