Seoul Korean BBQ where staff grill your pork jowl: Dojeok Hapjeong
In short
Dojeok Hapjeong is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Seogyo-dong, Mapo, Seoul, between Hongdae, Hapjeong and Sangsu Station, and it has held the same spot for 20 years. The order was two servings of pork belly and two of pork jowl plus bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) and cheese-bomb steamed egg, with an AI robot doing the first sear and a staff member finishing the meat at the table. Dojeok Hapjeong suits anyone who wants to talk through dinner instead of watching the grill.

Right at the crossroads of Hongdae, Hapjeong, Sangsu Station, and Seogyo-dong sits a true pork-belly institution that's held its ground for 20 years: Dojeok Hapjeong.

Here's my review of Dojeok Hapjeong, my latest Hapjeong meat restaurant find! There are so many barbecue places around Hapjeong and Hongdae that it's hard to choose, but this time I was really craving pork belly, so while searching for pork belly at a Hongdae meat restaurant, I ended up here.
Where is Dojeok Hapjeong, and what are the hours and parking?
Dojeok Hapjeong is located at 3 Eoulmadang-ro 5-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It's open daily from 16:00 to 00:30, and parking is available at nearby lots.
Since it's on the Hapjeong side, it's easy to reach from Hongdae, and it's also a reasonable walk from Sangsu Station, so anyone hunting for a meat restaurant near Sangsu Station might want to keep this one in mind too.
Hand-cut pork belly after 20 years, plus AI robot pre-grilling

The signage in the restaurant explained it like this: their 20-year-tradition scored pork belly — scored with countless cuts for a tender texture — gets pre-grilled precisely by a cutting-edge AI robot. Thanks to the robot's precise temperature control, the juices stay locked in, giving you that classic crispy-outside, juicy-inside texture consistently every time.
While waiting for my order, the fun part was that a robot actually brought the pre-grilled meat out.

Is Dojeok Hapjeong good for groups and company dinners?
Walking into Dojeok Hapjeong, the tables were spaced generously, and it looked like a solid option for group visits. It seemed especially well suited for company dinners or anyone eating with a bigger crowd.
On weekdays, reservations of 20 or more can book an entire floor exclusively, and group seating or private hire is also available, so it looks like a good option as a gathering spot. When you're hunting for a Hongdae restaurant or Hapjeong restaurant, taste matters, but so does whether a large group can sit comfortably, right?
What we ordered: pork belly, pork jowl, bibim guksu, cheese-bomb steamed egg

- Pork belly (2 servings)
- Pork jowl (2 servings)
- Bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles)
- Cheese-bomb steamed egg
That's what we ordered. Once the pre-grilled meat arrives, a staff member grills it the rest of the way at your table, and for someone who isn't great at grilling meat herself, this setup was really convenient. Best of all, since staff handled the grilling, we didn't have to worry about timing and could just chat and eat.

The meat we had that day was genuinely delicious!! The pork belly, grilled to just the right point, was savory with plenty of juiciness, and the pork jowl had that distinctive chewy texture, so alternating between the two kept things from getting monotonous.

The banchan (side dishes) matter a surprising amount at a meat restaurant, and here the standard sides that came out were varied, which I loved haha. Instead of just eating meat on repeat, you could mix in different sides and keep changing up the combinations! Because of this, I felt it wasn't just a place to eat meat — it could also work well for a dinner gathering or company dinner in Hapjeong.

What I especially liked was that since staff did the grilling, I could watch the meat and eat it right at its best moment.

When I go to a meat restaurant, I sometimes end up so busy grilling that I barely get to talk to whoever I'm with, but here that wasn't an issue at all. I recently went to a self-grill place with a friend and could barely hold a conversation ㅜㅜ So if you're looking for pork belly at a Hongdae meat restaurant and want to eat comfortably, I think this is a great option. Haha.

The sides: bibim guksu and cheese-bomb steamed egg
Eating just meat the whole time can feel a little lacking, so we ordered sides too. First up, bibim guksu! You really can't skip it when eating meat. The tangy, spicy noodles reset your palate between bites, so it paired really well with the pork belly.

And then the cheese-bomb steamed egg I'd been looking forward to. True to its name, it's loaded with cheese for extra savoriness, making it a great match alongside the meat.
Worth it for Korean BBQ around Hongdae and Hapjeong?

Hongdae, Hapjeong, and Sangsu have so many good restaurants that it's hard to decide where to go. On this visit, Dojeok Hapjeong let me enjoy both pork belly and pork jowl with staff doing the grilling, which was convenient, and I got to enjoy the side dishes and banchan too, so overall it was a satisfying meal haha.
Especially if you're visiting with several people, it's worth checking on group seating, reservations, and private hire, so it could work well for anyone looking for a gathering spot. That day I ate everything from pork belly to pork jowl, bibim guksu, and cheese-bomb steamed egg, and the combination worked out better than I expected — I left completely full :)
