Seongsu café for comparing acidic vs nutty iced americanos: T Coffee

In short

T Coffee is a quiet café on basement level 1 of Achasan-ro in Seongdong-gu, Seongsu, Seoul. The writer and her husband ordered two iced americanos at 5,500 won each, one with nutty beans and one with acidic beans, to compare them, alongside a 4,000 won biscuit that is like a scone but moister. When you are tired of Seongsu's crowded hot spots, T Coffee is a good café for working alone or for a quiet conversation for two.

Looking for a quiet café in Seongsu: T Coffee

T Coffee is a café on the basement level of a building on Achasan-ro in Seongsu. I found it by searching "quiet cafe Seongsu" to avoid the crowded hot spots. It turned out to be a café with a nice atmosphere that's also good for reading. After going only to places that are packed every day with fierce competition for seats, this relaxed café was a great place to rest.

Seongsu has lots of crowded cafés. At first I liked the people-watching. But the more you go, the more you start looking for a calm café. Waiting in line for lunch, then going to a packed café too... it just drains me, you know? The Seongsu café I visited this time is T Coffee, located on the basement level.

Is T Coffee a good café for working alone?

T Coffee is quiet, so it suits a Seongsu work café or a café to visit solo. The space is also surprisingly big. It's good for relaxing without pressure or getting things done. I'd love to bring my own work and work leisurely at a Seongsu café like this too, but I just love squeezing in work in little gaps, ㅠ

A basement café in Seongsu that feels like a garden

T Coffee is underground, but it makes good use of its windows, and the interior feels like an above-ground garden. It was a surprisingly comfortable space. I came for a café with few people, and it turned out to be a Seongsu café with a great atmosphere too.

T Coffee menu: americano with a choice of 2 beans and 4 desserts

T Coffee has coffee and non-coffee drinks. Of course we ordered iced americanos. You can choose between two kinds of beans, nutty or acidic. There were two of us, so we decided to try one of each.

Like a Seongsu dessert café, they sell desserts too, four kinds. Not many, but they were basic and done well.

These days I feel cookies go better with coffee than cakes do. Not that I don't eat cake, but... I like both heavy cookies and light cookies, so I absolutely love the cookie and coffee combo.

T Coffee is a good Seongsu café for conversation, and since it isn't crowded, it was a place to clear my head for a bit.

How does the T Coffee biscuit (4,000 won) taste?

The T Coffee biscuit is ₩4,000, and you can think of it as something like a scone. But it's actually quite different from a scone. It wasn't a buttery-rich dessert so much as a nutty, plain biscuit. The taste was clean, and the outside was slightly dry while the inside was soft. A scone is dry inside too, but this had a bit of moisture. It felt like a fancy handmade version of Eomma-son Pie (a classic Korean puff pastry cookie). As a scone fanatic, of course I ate it happily, and my husband said it was good and ate it well too.

Iced americano (5,500 won): acidic beans vs nutty beans

The T Coffee iced americano is ₩5,500. Picking different beans and getting to learn how they taste is its own fun. Isn't that the charm of a date?

You could see just by looking that the coffee colors were different because of the different beans.

Americanos in different colors, acidic and nutty beans

Acidic beans: moderate acidity, good for beginners

I tried the acidic beans first. The acidity wasn't intense but moderate, so it didn't put me off. Even people who don't like acidity could start with T Coffee's acidic coffee. I think that's why it feels even more refreshing when you're thirsty. I liked it.

Nutty beans: heavier, with a slight acidity

The nutty beans were definitely heavier, with more body than the acidic beans. But even though they were nutty beans, there was a bit of acidity. Maybe because my palate isn't refined, I felt the acidity more in the nutty coffee than in the acidic one. It was a varied americano where you could taste both nuttiness and acidity.

T Coffee in Seongsu: final verdict

T Coffee seems a fitting choice as a quiet Seongsu café or a Seongsu café for studying. It isn't crowded and it's quiet, so it's good for enjoying alone, and a great place for relaxed, cozy conversation. The coffee tasted fine, and the biscuit was plain but cleanly delicious.
