Hi everyone, it's Kyokyo! ^^ On the way home from an outing with the kids, I was craving a hot bowl of gomtang (Korean beef bone soup) for dinner, so we stopped by Haga Naju Gomtang Hwaseong Woojeong branch, a well-known spot in Woojeong-eup.
What is Haga Naju Gomtang Hwaseong Woojeong branch?
Haga Naju Gomtang Hwaseong Woojeong branch has been running as a gomtang specialty restaurant in Woojeong-eup since 2017. They say they pick out good meat and hanwoo (Korean beef) fresh every dawn, and the beef used in the gomtang is domestic Korean hanwoo. Since this is food we're eating with the kids, I really liked that it's Korean beef.

Haga Naju Gomtang Hwaseong Woojeong branch has 120 regular seats and a room that fits up to 50 people, so it's great for a family meal and also works well as a spot for company dinners or group meals — a solid restaurant in Woojeong-eup either way.
I heard that when Running Man filmed at Maehyangri Peace Ecological Park, the cast and crew all ate here together afterward. The place is spacious enough to seat that many people at once, so it would work well too if you're looking for a Korean restaurant in Hwaseong for a group. Haha.
Gomtang simmered with Korean hanwoo beef
They add 12 ingredients including astragalus root and angelica root and simmer the broth for a full 24 hours, so it's worth a look if you're after Hwaseong hanwoo gomtang.
Side dishes and the self-service corner
The basic side dishes are napa cabbage kimchi, diced radish kimchi, and pickled radish. If you need more, you can help yourself at the self-service corner. Topping your gomtang with a well-ripened piece of diced radish kimchi is such a treat, haha. Personally I think the pickled radish is the real standout (my personal pick). All menu items can be packed to go too.
What we ordered and what it cost
Two orders of Haga Gomtang (ox bone broth) at ₩9,500 each, and one Haga Naju Gomtang (meat broth) at ₩9,500. The kids had gomtang, and I had naju gomtang.
Haga Naju Gomtang menu and prices
There's a wide variety on the menu — Haga Jin Gomtang, doganitang (beef knee cartilage soup), doganitang chive salad, and more — so you can pick what suits your taste. These days it's hard to find a meal for under ₩10,000, but this isn't even ₩9,900 — it's ₩9,500! And with domestic Korean beef on top of that, the price alone won me over. ^^ Haga Naju Gomtang Woojeong branch, saved in my heart~♡
Haga Gomtang (ox bone broth): what the kids ate
The kids' Haga Gomtang came with a milky white ox bone broth loaded with meat and green onions.
There was no gamy smell from the meat at all, and the thinly sliced beef, like a suyuk (boiled sliced beef) style, was tender and soft. Maybe because the broth is simmered for 24 hours from hanwoo bones, it was rich yet mellow — the kids really tucked in.
My younger one picked out all the meat first, then mixed in a full bowl of rice and polished it off. ^^
My son took a sip of the broth and then said —
Wow, this broth is good! This place is really tasty.
— and then finished off the rice along with every last drop of broth in the stone bowl!
What does Haga Naju Gomtang (meat broth) taste like?
Haga Naju Gomtang has a clear meat broth. The color alone sets it apart. You can just tell at a glance it's a broth properly drawn out from hanwoo beef. ^^ There was a good amount of thinly sliced meat in it too, and each bite was tender with no gamy taste since it's domestic Korean beef.
Above all, the broth is clean yet deep in flavor! I'm a pepper person, so I sprinkled on a ton of black pepper for a bit of a kick, and it went really well with the rich broth. ^^
It reminded me of the gomtang I used to line up for at Hayanjip in Naju. Having tried it, this place really is a hidden gem too. ^^
Once I mixed in the rice and took a bite, that's exactly the gomtang flavor I was after. ^^ Diced radish kimchi is the classic pairing for gomtang, but the crunchy pickled radish suited my taste even more. The price was reasonable and the kids ate so well — this is a restaurant in Woojeong-eup I'd love to visit again next time I'm nearby. ^^
