Hwaseong City Hall meat restaurant: pork belly with wasabi, Morakmorak
In short
Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang (모락모락정육식당) is a butcher-style meat restaurant on Yeokgol-jungang-ro in Namyang-eup, Hwaseong, near Hwaseong City Hall. Two packs of pork belly picked straight from the showcase came to about 70,000 won including the table charge, and the pre-grilled pork belly tasted new again with each dip — salt, wasabi, sesame oil sauce, scallion salad, mountain garlic leaves and pickled onion. With a large outdoor lot and partitioned seating, Morakmorak works just as well for a couple's dinner as for a big group.

Wondering where to go for a solid meat meal near Hwaseong City Hall? I visited Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang, a Hwaseong favorite where you can park without stress and eat all the good-quality meat you want!

The building itself was impressively large, and the parking lot was spacious too. For gatherings or group dinners where people drive, easy parking is honestly the biggest plus haha.

How big is the dining room at Morakmorak?
Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang Namyang Hwaseong City Hall Main Branch has a wide dining hall with both high-partitioned seats and group tables. Walking in, the sheer openness of the space really surprised me!!

Every table has high partitions for a private feel, which made it perfect for a cozy dinner with my husband.
The group seating is also well set up, so it's no wonder this place is popular for company dinners with nearby office workers. The clean interior gave the whole space a comfortable vibe, even though it's a meat restaurant.
A stylish night-view video plays on the wall, giving it a more sophisticated feel than a typical butcher restaurant haha. The inner side of the table has a sofa-like step up, which seemed convenient for families with kids too.
How do you pick the pork belly, and what did it cost?
One of the biggest features of Morakmorak is that you get to see and pick your own meat straight from the showcase! From Korean beef to pork, everything is neatly packaged and displayed by cut, and being able to check the freshness with your own eyes really builds trust.

We picked two packs of pork belly, and the bright reddish color looked so appetizing! With the table charge included it came to about ₩70,000, which felt like solid value considering the quality haha.

Pre-grilling service at the table
Once you pick your meat, the kitchen gives it a golden-brown pre-grill before bringing it out. It comes already cut into bite-sized pieces, so you only need to finish it off lightly on the grill — way less work!!

It keeps the fun of grilling it yourself while cutting out the hassle — really convenient.
What's on the self-bar?
Morakmorak's self-bar has basic side dishes along with a tortilla, guacamole and salsa taco corner, plus an unlimited ramen corner cooked in Korean beef bone broth. You can freely help yourself to the basic side dishes there too!

The kimchi, mountain garlic leaves, and bracken fern were all kept really neatly. The pickled onion, wrapped radish, and lettuce for pairing with meat were all super fresh too haha. Every single side dish felt made to go with the meat~
Unusually, there were tortillas and various sauces for making your own tacos too? With guacamole and salsa sauce ready to go, that's part of what makes Morakmorak's charm — enjoying meat in a unique way!!
And then, the long-awaited unlimited ramen corner!! They even have a separate beef bone broth ready to cook it in~ After eating meat, nothing finishes the meal off quite like ramen to cut through the richness haha.
Side dishes, yukhoe (raw beef tartare) and doenjang jjigae
This is the whole table setting before the pre-grilled meat arrived~ There's a dedicated spot in the center of the table for the stew, so you can keep it warm the whole time.

Before the main meat was ready, we tried the yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), and the texture that just melted in the mouth truly surprised me!!

The seasoning wasn't too heavy and had a nutty flavor that kept me reaching for more haha.

I put together my own taco using the tortilla set I grabbed from the self-bar earlier haha. Getting to enjoy guacamole, which isn't easy to come by, was such a treat~

The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) bubbling in the middle was packed generously with ingredients, so the broth flavor was really rich and deep.

The doenjang jjigae cut right through the rich, fatty flavor of the pork belly, so I never got tired of it even down to the last piece!

Every single side dish was delicious too!! Each bite of meat came out tasting a little different, so it never got boring haha.

Which pork belly pairings work best?
Since Morakmorak's pork belly comes pre-grilled, it cooked really fast~ The outside gets golden-brown while the juices stay locked inside! Cut into bite-sized pieces, the ratio of lean meat to fat looked just right — appetizing just to look at :)

Pork belly with salt
You've got to try well-grilled pork belly dipped in salt first haha. With just a little salt and no other side dish, the meat's own nutty flavor came through even more clearly. The salty touch let me enjoy the pork belly's flavor cleanly :)

Pork belly with wasabi
Personally, I really love pork belly with wasabi! It cuts through the richness while adding a slight kick, and it paired perfectly haha. Especially for a fatty cut like pork belly, a little wasabi makes it feel much cleaner~

Sesame oil sauce with coarse salt
This time I dipped it in sesame oil sauce with a bit of coarse salt on top :) The nutty sesame oil aroma plus the salty coarse salt made the pork belly flavor feel even richer haha. Especially with pork belly that's golden outside and juicy inside, this classic combo never fails!

Pajeori (scallion salad)
Eating meat without scallion salad would feel wrong haha. I piled a generous amount of the tangy, spicy scallion salad on top of the pork belly, and the crunchy texture paired really well!

Myeongi namul (pickled mountain garlic leaves)
Pork belly also went really well with mountain garlic leaves (myeong-i namul) haha. The salty-tangy leaves cut through the richness of the meat cleanly, so each bite went down easily without feeling heavy :) Wrapping a piece of pork belly in the leaf, the nutty meat flavor and the leaves' distinct aroma blended perfectly~

Pickled onion
Last but not least, pickled onion with pork belly! The crunchy onion and tangy-sweet soy sauce dressing paired really well with the rich pork belly haha. Topping a piece of pork belly with plenty of onion gave me both nutty richness and a refreshing tang at once — I couldn't stop eating!
Final verdict on Morakmorak
My visit to Morakmorak, a Hwaseong City Hall area favorite, was a very satisfying dinner thanks to the spacious layout and convenient system haha. The meat itself at Morakmorak was delicious, but the variety of things to pair it with made it even better :)
Salt, wasabi, sesame oil sauce, scallion salad, mountain garlic leaves, pickled onion — being able to mix and match to taste meant the same pork belly felt different every time haha. With such a wide range of sides and sauces to go with the meat, I could eat all the way to the end without ever getting tired of it!
If you're near Hwaseong City Hall or Rolling Hills and looking for a spot for a family meal or a group dinner, definitely stop by!!
