Yongsan brunch café with towering French toast: Ongfleur

In short

Ongfleur is a brunch café near Grand Hyatt Seoul in Yongsan, Seoul. I ordered the 18,000 won brioche French toast and 7,000 won blueberry yogurt smoothie while exploring its separate seating areas. Verdict: a generous, thoughtfully composed brunch worth returning for.

Brunch near Grand Hyatt Seoul in Itaewon

Ongfleur HONFLEUR I found this lovely, date-friendly café in Itaewon, where the atmosphere is great, the owner is so kind, and carefully made brunch is on the menu! It is near Grand Hyatt Seoul in Itaewon. It is a three-minute walk from the hotel entrance, so it is in a great spot if you have plans nearby or are visiting the Hyatt!

Ongfleur entrance and interior space

When you first enter Ongfleur, the Itaewon brunch café, you might go, “Huh?” From outside, you may think the interior looks spacious. Look closely at the photo and there is a passageway leading left at the back. Go through it, and the pretty space you saw from outside appears!!

There is also seating for waiting on takeaway orders, and you can order at the kiosk! Naver reservations are available too, so booking before you visit is a good idea!! Getting a table first is important, so secure your seat before ordering, then come to the kiosk!

Inside Ongfleur, divided into several spaces

Ongfleur, the Itaewon brunch café, is divided into several spaces. It feels like even if you came many times, having a drink in a different spot each time would give you a different mood?!

There was also this beautifully decorated window-side space with lovely sunlight. Photos turn out beautifully here too! Ongfleur’s photo spot!

And there was a spacious white-toned area with a gallery-like feel.

As I looked around every corner of Ongfleur, the Itaewon brunch café, I thought it would be great for small gatherings too! The café is divided into several smaller spaces, which gives it a nice private feeling.

Brunch and drink menu

The brunch and drink menus are separate, and I put them in a clear table format! BRUNCH PASTA SEASON MENU DESSERT

So many menu items looked delicious that I debated for quite a while, then ordered two things: the ₩18,000 brioche French toast and the ₩7,000 blueberry yogurt smoothie!

Blueberry yogurt smoothie loaded with blueberries

The blueberry yogurt smoothie is ₩7,000, and these days smoothies at most independent cafés cost ₩6,000–₩7,000 anyway. Ongfleur’s blueberry yogurt smoothie is generous in size, but the composition is great too. You can see the pretty decoration, right? And why are there so many straws? Because there is so much in it. I ordered a blueberry smoothie, but this was the first time I had seen one topped with this many blueberries. The cup is quite big too. As soon as I saw it, I thought, wow... I cannot finish this by myself. It was a seriously large cup, almost Venti size.

Brioche French toast stacked high

The photos show how pretty this brunch is, but it is a little disappointing that they do not convey how generous it is!!! The plate is enormous, and every single element feels carefully considered—that is why I called it a thoughtfully made brunch earlier.

Personally, I do not like plating food spread widely across a plate. You can tell it is meant to make the serving look bigger than it is, which feels skimpy, and most importantly, the food dries out or cools down quickly. Ongfleur’s French toast is stacked vertically, and every time you peel back a layer, something else keeps appearing.

My first thought was, wow... what a big plate. And it is packed full on top? Then, when I scanned it with my eyes, I thought, fruit, salad, French toast, and bacon—that is the combination~ I moved one slice of bread to eat it, and...

First of all, there are two pieces of bread. So this definitely is not one serving; it is for two. Can you see the nuts on the bread? It is piled with walnuts, cranberries, sunflower seeds, and all kinds of dried nuts. And when I lifted the bacon, there was sausage underneath?! The sausage was not overly salty either, which I liked!

And as I kept eating, there was banana too? The banana was browned on top like crème brûlée, and it seemed like they used fresh, tasty bananas. It was a delicious banana without that distinctive green, underripe smell!

Honestly, there are sooo many brunch places that make French toast. I love French toast, so I have ordered it at lots of brunch cafés, but I have rarely seen one with such a good composition. Every ingredient had clearly been considered and filled the plate, and even the bacon was not cheap bacon—the smoky flavor was not overpowering. The fruit selection was so varied too: grapes, peaches, oranges, and passion fruit, plus plenty of salad, sausage, and bacon! There were also two slices of thick bread. I was satisfied with the quantity, and I loved that the menu itself felt carefully made! It seemed like a place very loved by locals. It also looked dog-friendly, and the owner was incredibly kind, so I would love to visit again if I get the chance!
