Signature dish at Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch

If you ask me my favorite food, sundae soup is the first thing I could shout out!!! I ask around and seek out places all over Incheon, and I’ve found a truly great spot that lands in my top three~

Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch: basics and parking

Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch is on the first floor at 46 Yeomchang-ro, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, and is open daily from 10:00 to 22:00.

Where is the parking lot?

Underground parking location on the left side of the building

The underground parking entrance is immediately to the left of the building~ I misread it and drove around once, but it means the left side when you are facing the front of the building! There are lots of cars parked along the road out front, so do check carefully before parking :)

The lot is fairly spacious, but if it is full, you can also use the public parking lot directly opposite!

Sundae soup menu and prices

  • Clear sundae soup ₩10,000
  • Spicy sundae soup ₩11,000
  • Suraok sundae soup ₩10,000
  • Add-on set +₩4,000

There were quite a few kinds of sundae soup, mostly in the ₩10,000 range~ Their names differ according to the amount of dadaegi (spicy seasoning paste): the clear version has none at all, Suraok has a moderate amount, and the spicy one has plenty of spicy minced seasoning. You can order according to your taste!

Receipt review event

I was curious about the sundae at Suraok, and guess what? Add just ₩4,000 and you get the sundae set!? Wow... And if you leave a Naver receipt review, they even give this as a freebie! Lots of people have it as a drinking snack even without ordering the set, so you can also leave a Naver receipt review with alcohol on the receipt~

Kkakdugi and self-service bar side dishes

The kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) here is seriously delicious. It is fermented, but how is it this refreshing? The onion is lightly sweet too... I think I refilled the kkakdugi three times because it was so good. Customers kept coming and going at the self-service bar, and the side dishes were replenished right away!

Suraok’s atmosphere at dinner

It was packed when I went, but because it is a gukbap (rice soup) place, tables seem to turn over quickly! It was really busy at dinner~ Mostly families were visiting; this is a place real Juan locals come to~

Side dishes served with the gukbap

The basic side dishes are kkakdugi, chives that go wonderfully with sundae soup, and salted shrimp! The onion and peppers were spicy and made great sides too!

Eating it with the sweet onion really wakes up your appetite~~ Some people chop up the spicy peppers and add them to the spicy sundae soup, but wouldn’t that be too hot? They were Cheongyang peppers!

What comes in the ₩4,000 add-on sundae set

Sundae, liver, and sliced boiled pork set

This is that great-value set menu!! For an extra ₩4,000, you can try sundae, liver, and sliced boiled pork~ I had always eaten dry, crumbly liver before, but this one is moisture itself! You can feel it melting away in your mouth~ No need to hesitate: order the set too! It is quite a lot, so if two people are eating, I recommend making one order a set!

Moist liver and sliced boiled pork

You have to try this to know... it is truly moist to the max! The sliced boiled pork has an outstanding chewy texture. I always thought liver was dry and crumbly, but Suraok’s liver is completely tender and soft! It was full of nutty flavor~

What does the clear sundae soup broth taste like?

I love clear sundae soup~ Rather than adding dadaegi, I like the sundae in that white, milky broth. They say it is simmered with Korean beef bones, and its defining feature is a rich, milky nuttiness~

And the portion was reaaally big! The sundae is traditional-style sundae, making it even richer and tastier. I prefer it to glass-noodle sundae, so I loved being able to enjoy both kinds!

How spicy is the signature Suraok sundae soup?

Suraok sundae soup with dadaegi seasoning

The Suraok sundae soup my mom ordered! It is clear broth with a little dadaegi, and it is less spicy than Shin Ramyun~ This was the most popular menu item~!

The sundae is not glass-noodle sundae but traditional-style sundae filled with meat and offal! It is different from the glass-noodle sundae we commonly eat—packed full and the ultimate in clean, savory flavor!

Is the spicy sundae soup good for a hangover?

The spicy sundae soup has a peppery, spicy kick, so I think it would be perfect for curing a hangover~ I usually prefer clear broth, but after drinking, I would definitely order the spicy sundae soup! It was about as spicy as Shin Ramyun!

The kkakdugi was so refreshing that I kept eating it! The clear sundae soup feels like gomtang (beef bone soup); mixing a bowl of rice into that milky broth was hearty, happy bliss itself!

A dinner finished down to the last drop of broth

I have visited sundae soup places around Incheon nonstop, but this is the first place where I scraped up every last bit of broth... I found a gukbap restaurant that is completely my style! It is right by Juan Station, so it is easy to get to and I think I will visit often... What is this neat, delicious sundae soup place.?
