Evenings have gotten pretty cool lately, and maybe that's why I kept craving hot, spicy soup dishes 🤭 So this time I went to an izakaya in Seonbu-dong, Ansan that's great for dinner plus a drink!

Sashimi, skewers and nabe: what's on the menu at Izakaya Ho

The interior isn't huge, but it's cozy and has a great vibe. They sell everything from sashimi to skewers to nabe hot pots, so instead of ordering just one dish, it's a good place to order a variety of things to enjoy as drinking snacks. That day, after some thought, we wanted something warm and soupy, so we ordered the spicy beef tendon nabe!

One of the things I liked about Izakaya Ho while looking for an izakaya in Seonbu-dong, Ansan was the variety of menu options. From clean, light dishes like sashimi to skewers that are a must for drinking, and the warm nabe we ordered, there's something for every taste.

If you visit with a group, ordering a few sashimi or skewer dishes plus one shared nabe sounds great, and if you visit as a pair like we did, ordering one nabe and adding udon noodles is filling enough haha. Especially on cool evenings like these, it was the perfect atmosphere to order a hot nabe and slowly chat over a drink.

The complimentary side dish is cabbage! I love this so much, and it had been a while since I had it, so I was really satisfied hahaha.

Spicy beef tendon nabe: how the tendon and broth taste

After ordering and waiting a bit, the spicy beef tendon nabe arrived, bubbling away. As soon as it hit the table, the warm broth smell wafted up, and I thought it would be perfect for these chilly evenings haha.

There was a generous amount of beef tendon inside, and the broth was spicy in a way that kept me coming back for more spoonfuls. The tendon wasn't tough but had a lively, chewy texture that was delicious with the broth! It was especially the kind of spicy flavor that pairs well with drinks — I felt it would go great with soju or a highball 🍶

Dipping it in the special sauce that came with it, it melts in your mouth...

The amount of tendon and meat was really huge... no matter how much we ate, the portion didn't seem to shrink lol.

Adding udon noodles to finish the nabe

It was delicious just eating the tendon alone, but we didn't stop there and added udon noodles too lol. Nabe just needs udon noodles, right...🥹 The spicy broth soaked into the udon noodles, and slurping the noodles with the broth gave a whole different feeling. Eating the tendon first and then adding the udon meant we could properly enjoy the broth right to the end! The portion was heartier than expected too, so it would be fine for people visiting for dinner as well.

Is Izakaya Ho worth it for an izakaya night in Seonbu-dong?

This time I tried the spicy beef tendon nabe, and the combination of chewy tendon texture, spicy broth, and the final udon noodles was great! With a variety of menu items like sashimi, skewers, and nabe, this is a good Seonbu-dong izakaya to keep in mind whether you want a light drink or a dinner visit with friends or a partner :) Next time, I'd like to try the sashimi or skewer dishes I missed this time 😋
