Solo drinking bar in Sadang, Seoul: beef tartare at Dophan
In short
Dophan is a European-style dining bar on Bangbaecheon-ro 6-gil in Seocho, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Sadang Station Exit 11. Sitting alone at the counter seat, the writer ordered house wine (11,0), Korean beef tartare (34,9) and a charcuterie cheese platter M (17,9), and found tartare piled on potato chips the best combination of the night. With 10% off all bottles for solo drinkers and an M-size platter, Dophan makes a quiet drink on your own feel easy.

Does everyone enjoy drinking? I wouldn't say I love alcohol itself so much as I love the mood of a drinking table. Good food, a drink, chatting about this and that — that's great, but sometimes I just want to sit alone quietly and have a simple one.
Wrapping up a tiring day with good food and a light drink — that small moment is honestly a nice little healing session (you all know what I mean, right?). This time too I went looking for somewhere to have a light drink, and the variety of snacks and the vibe looked good, so I went — and it exceeded expectations more than I thought. Let me introduce Dophan, a bar in Sadang.

🅿️ For parking, use nearby lots.

What kind of bar is Dophan?
Dophan, a bar in Sadang, blends "DOPE" — American slang for "cool and outstanding" — with the Korean adjectival ending "-han," a space built with the passion to present a trendy, cool dining culture. It's a dining bar handling various European dishes and drinks, aiming for a casual dining culture you can enjoy comfortably.

There's a menu board posted outside listing what's available, good to check before going in.

There's a clean bar area and shelves lined with various liquors, giving off a stylish, moody bar vibe distinct from the dining space — a charming spot for enjoying your meal alongside the atmosphere, perfect for solo drinks, dates, and of course wedding-invitation gatherings, work dinners, anniversaries, any occasion!

What seating does Dophan have?

What to order at Dophan when drinking alone
House wine (₩11,0) / Korean beef tartare (₩34,9) / charcuterie cheese platter M (₩17,9)
Table setting: plate / spoon / chopsticks / napkin. As soon as I sat down, they thoughtfully brought cold ice water first :D
The perk of counter seating!! You get to watch the whole cooking and plating process, which is genuinely fun ~!

It was evening, so ordering beef tartare and a cheese platter as my "light" meal is our little secret ~ (that still counts as light, right?)
Complimentary baguette starter
Crispy baguette paired with a tangy balsamic-based sauce, refreshing the palate like an appetizer and whetting the appetite!
House wine at Dophan (11,0)
🍷 A glass wine that's easy to enjoy without any pressure. The house wine comes in white and red, pick to taste — I went with the red since it pairs with the menu. The staff kindly explained the wine options and poured it directly into my glass, making it easy to enjoy.

Not too heavy or astringent, moderately smooth yet dry, finishing cleanly — good for pairing with pretty much any dish.
Korean beef tartare (34,9)
The Korean beef tartare is made from 100% Korean beef eye of round, finely minced and tossed with a special seasoning — apparently a menu with a soft, nutty flavor that's the real charm. It comes with the tartare and potato chips.
On top of the tartare there's fresh green chives, a fresh egg yolk, and cheese piled on like snow ~ the colorful mix makes it appetizing even before you take a bite.

No toughness or gamey smell — the eye of round goes down smoothly after a few chews, and the saltiness of the capers, the sharpness of the shallots, and a subtle truffle aroma blend together without overpowering it, gently adding to the beef's naturally nutty, soft flavor without ruining it — this was the best menu item I kept marveling at with every bite!
Pop the yolk and mix in the snow-flake cheese, and the nutty, soft flavor really comes alive, boosting the tartare's overall flavor — if you visit Dophan, this is a must-order.

On the side there are crispy potato chips — thin and crunchy like homemade fried chips, nutty and light, the kind you keep reaching for. Just the chips alone could take down one beer... no, two :) They're more like thin-sliced, pan-fried potato strips than actual chips, so keep that in mind!

Piling the beef tartare on top of a crispy potato chip gives you an amazing textural contrast plus insane flavor and umami — please, try this combination.
Charcuterie cheese platter M (17,9)

🧀 The charcuterie cheese platter M comes with a variety of cheeses plus salty charcuterie like jamón, salami, and chorizo — perfect as a light wine pairing or drinking snack for solo diners.

When you're by yourself, ordering just the cheese platter alone makes it hard to sample other dishes, so you might hesitate to order just that one item, right? That's why there's this M-size platter — light enough to enjoy as a side or a solo drinking snack without any pressure, which was great for a solo visit.

The set includes grilled bread / jamón / salami / smoked cheese / brie / fruit cheese, plus marinated olives :D
The grilled bread is already tasty on its own — crispy outside, moist inside — and topping it with salty jamón and salami makes for the perfect wine snack.
Cheese is always good on its own... the chewy smoked cheese with a subtle smoky aroma, the soft creamy brie with a slightly funky kick, and the soft, sweet fruit cheese studded with dried fruit bits!! The fruit cheese is my favorite 🧀 great on bread too.
Popping a marinated olive in between bites gives a salty-tangy hit that refreshes the palate, great alongside the cheese or jamón too.

Cleaned the whole plate... hmm... when am I ever going to diet?
