Pork belly over charcoal briquettes in Ansan Wadong: Euljiro Yeontan Gui
Euljiro Yeontan Gui Ansan Wadong Branch is at 30 Wadong-ro, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do, open every day from 12:00 to 24:00 with last order at 23:00. After swimming like crazy with Majorica, we went to Euljiro Yeontan Gui to refuel on protein!
I'd swum so long I wanted to eat an insane amount of meat, and I suddenly remembered Euljiro's signature mixed platter by the geun (a traditional Korean unit, about 600g) — so straight to Euljiro Yeontan Gui we went. Both the taste and the portion size were fully satisfying — total winner.

What side dishes and self-serve bar does Euljiro Yeontan Gui offer?
Once you sit down, they bring the charcoal first, then the side dishes and meat. At Euljiro Yeontan Gui they give you a little pan with bean sprouts and kimchi drizzled with sesame oil — you set it on the grill and stir-fry it until it's nicely cooked.
There's also seasoned lettuce salad, pickled onion, and frozen radish salad! There are more side dishes at the self-serve bar too — worth checking out!

And here's the charcoal they set on the table! It's been ages since I had charcoal-grilled meat — total old-school vibes!

Ordering a geun of pork: how much meat, and what does it cost?
Looking at the menu at Euljiro Yeontan Gui Ansan Wadong Branch, orders are taken by the gram. But since we had no idea how much we'd eat, we just went ahead and ordered pork by the geun hahahaha.
No price pressure at all, so I love ordering pork by the geun at Euljiro Yeontan Gui! Since it's by the geun the portion is huge, and the meat quality was good too, so I kept wanting more, ugh.

Inside Euljiro Yeontan Gui Ansan Wadong Branch
Totally the vibe you'd expect from a charcoal grill house — napkins taped to the tables, the menu handwritten on colorful paper — that rough-around-the-edges charm only makes the meat taste better haha.

The self-serve bar has extra side dishes beyond the basics! Just take as much as you'll actually eat. There's pineapple too, and you can grill it!!! Anyone else a fan of warm grilled pineapple!!! (That's me, right here!)

Grilling four thick slices of pork belly over the briquettes
Sizzle sizzle, the meat cooking! The pork belly wasn't thin — it had real thickness to it, which made it even nuttier and more delicious! We were sitting by the window, and the meat glowing in the light looked absolutely radiant hahahaha. Four slices of pork belly went on the grill and there was still tons left uncooked..! But the price is so cheap! Genuinely unbelievable!

Why the frozen radish salad is the real kicker
This is THE signature move at Euljiro Yeontan Gui Ansan Wadong Branch! Frozen radish salad!!!!! Because it's frozen, it's ice-cold, sweet and tangy in your mouth when you eat it! Totally feels like restarting the meal with a bowl of naengmyeon (cold noodles)! You have to try this, seriously!

Doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) served before the meat
Bubbling doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) ~ It came out before the meat was even fully cooked, so I took a bite, and it was so good I ordered rice and inhaled half a bowl right away... Is it the swimming or is it this Euljiro Yeontan Gui place... why do I keep eating so much..!

A table packed full at Euljiro Yeontan Gui! That seasoned lettuce salad you can see there was really tasty too..! What sets Euljiro Yeontan Gui Ansan Wadong Branch apart is how the tangy, sweet, fresh side dishes cut through the richness of the meat and let you keep going. Honestly, one bowl of rice wasn't even enough.

The pork belly is grilling up nutty and golden, and with four slices there's a huge amount — there's still plenty uncooked! Calling it just good value undersells it, because the meat quality is genuinely good too — I feel like I'll be coming back to Euljiro Yeontan Gui often!

Sizzling away, Majorica diligently grilling the meat! Can you see how thick the pork is? It's so thick it never feels like you're eating carelessly! And tearing up the king oyster mushrooms grilling alongside and laying them on top of the meat is. So. Good.

And here it is again — the frozen radish salad! Put it on top of the meat with a spoonful of rice ~! Eating it this way, you can just keep going with the meat!

Ending the meal with complimentary pork skin
Last up, the pork skin that came out on the house ~! Even though it was free, they gave us two whole servings, so we got to grill a ton more! In this day and age it's hard to find a place with big portions, low prices, and great-tasting meat — but I found it right here at Euljiro Yeontan Gui!
Highly recommend it if you want to really eat your fill of meat! They also sell a variety of seafood like grilled clams and grilled prawns, so be sure to try a bit of everything!
