Ansan eel buffet with teriyaki sauce for 32,900 won: Songnim Bok

I've been feeling like I needed a little recharge lately, so I went to an eel all-you-can-eat restaurant. Eel is usually so expensive that I can never eat as much as I want, so I was already excited before I even got there!

Where is Songnim Bok Jangeo, the eel buffet near Ansan City Hall?

This time I visited Songnim Bok Jangeo Freshwater Eel All-You-Can-Eat Ansan City Hall Direct Store, on the 2nd floor of Ansan Gojan Praum City at 528-1 Gojan-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan, Gyeonggi. It's open 11:20 AM–10:00 PM (last order 9:00 PM), no closed days, and you can park in the building's basement lot.

It's located near Ansan City Hall.

It's inside the Ansan Gojan Praum City building right in front of Ansan City Hall, and the building is so huge that I couldn't even see the Songnim Bok Jangeo sign from the entrance I walked in through.

Ride the escalator up and turn about half a circle to the right, and you'll see the Songnim Bok Jangeo sign!

What are the dining room and self-serve corner like at Songnim Bok Jangeo?

The inside of Songnim Bok Jangeo Ansan City Hall Direct Store was clean and pleasant overall, and the floor-to-ceiling windows kept it from feeling stuffy.

The space is big, so it looked great for group gatherings — and since full private rental is available too, I thought it'd be perfect for family gatherings or group dinners haha.

There's a self-serve corner set up on one side where you can grab any extra side dishes you need.

Eel, pork belly, and chicken neck can also be grabbed comfortably from the self-serve corner, so I didn't feel self-conscious at all when refilling! Eel all-you-can-eat... so how much does it actually cost?

How much is the eel buffet? 32,900 won per adult for 2 hours

Including the table charge, it's 32,900 won per adult. These days that's about what you'd pay for a regular meat buffet, so getting an eel all-you-can-eat for low 30,000-won range is really good value!!

The buffet time limit is 2 hours, and I was worried at first that it might be too short, but the fire was strong so everything cooked fast — even for me, a slow eater, it felt just right 😁

They just hand you a bottle of bokbunja wine!! One free bottle per table — and the combination of bokbunja and eel... it really does the job of recharging you 😆

How do the eel, pork belly and chicken neck taste with teriyaki sauce?

At Songnim Bok Jangeo, they first bring out a plate of eel, pork belly, and chicken neck, and after that you grab whatever you want from the self-serve corner.

Since it's all-you-can-eat, I worried the freshness might drop a bit, but both the eel and the meat were fresh.

Now they start grilling the eel properly~ I liked that it was already cut into pieces that were easy to grill haha.

It hadn't been pre-cooked, but the eel still cooked faster than I expected, which was nice. Finally, beautifully browned eel! Just looking at it now makes me hungry again..🤤

The texture of the eel was really moist and tender, with no fishy taste at all — just a nutty richness. When the outside got nicely crisped up, that's exactly what you call crispy outside, tender inside..✨

There's teriyaki sauce and spicy sauce, and to my taste, teriyaki was the more delicious one.

They also grilled up pork belly and chicken neck for us — honestly, I didn't have high expectations for these. But they were actually delicious..

The pork belly especially had just the right thickness, and the balance of lean meat to fat was perfect. Being an eel buffet restaurant that's also this good at pork belly — isn't that kind of unfair!?

They kept refilling the eel and pork belly diligently, and we ate to our heart's content until we were stuffed haha.

Verdict: is this Ansan City Hall eel buffet worth it?

What satisfied me most was being able to enjoy eel all-you-can-eat, something that's usually too pricey to eat freely. And the bokbunja wine that came with it was such a nice touch — sipping it alongside the eel, the whole 2 hours went by so happily..🤍

Even though it's a buffet, the eel cuts were substantial, and being able to eat pork belly and chicken neck too made it feel like money well spent.
