In short

Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal is a Korean BBQ restaurant with an all-you-can-eat wrap vegetable bar on Jayang-ro near Guui Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. On a weekday evening, this visit covered two servings (400g) of charcoal-grilled galmaegisal (pork skirt steak) with a small draft beer for 1,900 won, then finished with spicy kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) instead of the usual fried rice. Smoky skirt steak wrapped in myeongi namul (pickled mountain garlic leaves) and a clean, refreshing noodle finish made for a filling dinner.

Interior full of customers on a weekday evening
View of the tables and seating area

Even on a weekday evening visit, the place was pretty full of local regulars. Doesn't that many customers on a weekday prove it's a tried-and-true neighborhood favorite? I'd call that a real local seal of approval! The relaxed, homey vibe made it an easy place to drop into without any fuss.

What's in the all-you-can-eat wrap vegetable bar?

🥬 Wrap vegetable all-you-can-eat zone. The biggest draw of this BBQ restaurant is the wrap vegetable zone. The variety made my eyes go wide! From myeong-i namul (mountain garlic leaves), which pairs perfectly with meat, to mustard leaf kimchi and green onion kimchi — the spicy, savory kimchi options were plentiful. There were also mild side dishes like white kimchi and roasted sweet pumpkin, so there was plenty for families to enjoy.

The base side dish spread alone was so generous and varied that I nearly filled up just on the wrap vegetables. Mixing and matching to build the perfect wrap was half the fun!

BBQ restaurants need thoughtful aprons, and this place had them, plus storage inside the chairs for belongings. Since a lot of families come here, kids' chairs were also on hand.

A 1,900 won small draft beer after work

🍺 A draft beer after work 🍺 On a still-hot summer evening, a cold draft after work was a real treat! The small size was a very reasonable ₩1,900. One cool sip of draft beer was pure relief. I instantly understood why locals keep coming back here.

Charcoal skirt steak, 400g for two: how big is the portion and how does it taste?

Charcoal-grilled galmaegisal (skirt steak), 2 servings (400g). We ordered charcoal skirt steak as our main. At 200g per serving, the portion was genuinely huge — the thick-cut meat looked promising.

Grilled over charcoal, the meat picked up a proper smoky flavor, staying juicy with a wonderfully chewy texture.

Piling myeong-i namul onto a wrap vegetable with a piece of skirt steak was the perfect combo! It wasn't greasy at all — light and clean, so my hand kept reaching for more.

Kalguksu instead of fried rice to finish the meal

🍜 Kalguksu for dessert. Most BBQ places finish with fried rice, right? But here, fried rice is only available when you order the sotttukkeong (iron lid) menu, so we finished with kalguksu instead. It turned out to be a total masterstroke! The intensely spicy, rich broth cut through the heaviness of the meat and left my stomach feeling refreshed. It had a different charm from fried rice — refreshing in its own way. I'd happily finish with kalguksu again next time.

Kalguksu dessert noodle soup with minari and mushrooms

The kalguksu is on the spicy side, so kids probably couldn't handle it! But it was packed with minari (water dropwort) and mushrooms, with chewy noodles and a refreshingly clean broth — a satisfying, standout dish for a BBQ restaurant.

Is Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal worth a visit?
