In short
Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal is a newly opened Korean BBQ restaurant near Guui Station in Gwangjin, Seoul, offering a choice of iron-lid or charcoal grill. Two servings of pork belly and one of pork neck were grilled with plenty of kimchi on the iron lid, and adding kimchi noodle soup brought a tangy-sweet broth that cut right through the greasiness. Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal recently opened near Guui Station. I heard they have fresh meat plus unlimited wrap greens, so I went for pork belly! We were there for drinks too, so the cheap alcohol prices were a big plus!
These days when I go out for BBQ, I look for places with fresh vegetables to eat alongside the meat too — I went in with high expectations since you can freely help yourself to various wrap greens, and I left completely satisfied ✨
Location and atmosphere of Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal near Guui Station
We took the bus and got off right in front of the restaurant! It was around 7pm on a weekday, and aside from a few tables, most people were already mid-meal haha
Menu and grill choice — iron lid vs charcoal grill

The menu! A really great thing about Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal is that you can choose your grilling plate. Pick either the iron lid or the charcoal grill — the price is the same either way haha. We were won over by the visual of the iron-lid pork belly grilled with tons of kimchi, so we went with the iron lid!
They also sell draft beer! From a small glass to go with the meal to a large one, and soju and beer are only ₩3,900...! So cheap and great!!!!!!
- Pork belly x2
- Pork neck x1
- Kimchi noodle soup x1
- Large draft beer
- Soju
How to use the wrap greens and side dish self-serve zone
After ordering, they set up the basic side dishes, but the wrap greens and extra sides are self-serve! It's actually more convenient than having to keep asking for refills and feeling awkward about it!

Besides wrap greens, they had a generous spread of sweet pumpkin, king oyster mushroom, pickled eggplant, and more

You just fill your plate with a variety like this

Ssamjang (dipping paste), salt, curry powder, and soybean powder are also there for you to take as you like!
Basic side dishes and tangy kimchi
The basic side dishes were quite varied too haha — gungchae (aster greens), myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves), baek-kimchi (white kimchi), gat-kimchi (mustard leaf kimchi) — so many sides to go with the meal

This place's kimchi is a real winner... the very tangy kimchi that's essential with iron-lid pork belly was such a hit that we grilled tons of it!

Two servings of pork belly, one of pork neck, 200g portions
The pork belly x2 and pork neck x1 we ordered! Each serving is a generous 200g, so the price is so, so reasonable ㅜㅜ But the taste is also great, so come with high expectations!!!

The grill's heat was really strong with high heat conduction, so everything cooked evenly and deliciously haha. Piled the edges high with eggplant, king oyster mushroom, kimchi, and more!
My heart raced at the visual of the iron lid — it's been a while ,,✨

How's this for a visual — iron-lid pork belly piled high with kimchi ,,★ The fat-to-meat ratio was just right, and it was so juicy and delicious ㅠㅠㅠ

Sometimes if pork isn't grilled crispy enough it has a gamey smell, but the meat quality at Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal is really good ㅠ The fat had a nice, slightly crisp texture too!

Put a piece of tasty pork belly on a lettuce wrap with crispy king oyster mushroom, pickled onion, and garlic as a soju side dish — so delicious ㅠ Even my picky husband and friend kept praising the meat quality haha

The tangy kimchi was especially delicious!

The pork belly was so good even just dipped in salt haha. If you want pork belly with a bit of that charcoal smokiness, go with the charcoal grill; if you want to grill loads of kimchi and bean sprouts, the iron lid is the way!

How was the kimchi noodle soup?
We also added kimchi noodle soup, and wow, it was like something from a noodle specialty restaurant ㅠ The tangy-sweet, rich broth was so good and the portion was generous — with roasted seaweed flakes and plenty of cucumber for both nutty flavor and crunch

Sometimes when you order kimchi noodle soup it comes out bland, but this one at Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal is the real deal... it washed away all the greasiness from the meat and its tangy-sweet flavor really perked up the appetite haha
Pork skin served on the house
While we were happily ordering more meat, they gave us pork skin on the house!

I was actually thinking about ordering pork skin myself, so getting it as a freebie was such a nice surprise haha

They offered to swap in a clean grill plate for the pork skin, but it felt like a waste to use it just for that haha, so we just grilled it as is. Dipped in the soybean powder from the self-serve bar, the pork skin was so tasty!!! We finished up slowly with it as a drinking snack haha
Verdict — worth recommending as a Korean BBQ restaurant near Guui Station?
Even visiting on a weekday afternoon, the place was packed, which made me curious — and it turned out to be great for both a casual meal out and a date! With drink prices this reasonable, from the small draft beer on up, this is a solid spot I'd happily visit again haha. If you're looking for good Korean BBQ near Guui Station, I recommend Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal :)
