Moksam Hwaro Nowon Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Nowon, Seoul, where staff par-grill and finish cooking pork at the table. The Moksam platter and doenjang sulbap made a satisfying meal, and a local friend said they wanted to return with family. Verdict: a great pick for relaxed, staff-grilled pork near Nowon Station.

If you're looking for somewhere to eat meat with a friend in Nowon, you'd rather go to a Korean BBQ restaurant where someone cooks it from start to finish than one where you're frantically grilling it yourself, right? At Moksam Hwaro Nowon Main Branch, which I visited recently, the staff carefully handled everything from the initial par-grill to the final cooking, so it was easy to focus on the flavor.

The Moksam platter and doenjang sulbap (rice in soybean-paste stew) combination was even more satisfying than I expected. A staff member par-grilled the pork shoulder and pork belly and cooked it all the way through, which made eating easy; they were so kind that my friend was seriously amazed. Moksam Hwaro also had a surprisingly wide range of dipping sauces, which made every bite fun too.
Even my friend who lives near Nowon was genuinely surprised...

Moksam Hwaro Nowon Main Branch, easy to reach from Nowon Station
The restaurant I recommend from this visit is Moksam Hwaro Nowon Main Branch. It is a quick walk from Exit 1 of Nowon Station, making it an easy Korean BBQ restaurant to arrange a meet-up at.

Once we arrived and ordered, they explained that the meat would come out par-grilled. From the phone call onward, everyone was so kind that I was already in a good mood before eating.
It varies by time, but I heard tables can fill up during evening peak hours and on weekends. If you're going at a busy time, I think making a reservation would give you more peace of mind.
This place is different from the very first par-grill...

It is close to Nowon Station and near the Culture Street, with plenty of restaurants and bars around, so it works well as a first stop and makes it easy to move on after dinner. This recommended restaurant is not huge, but its flexible table layout looked good for both couples and larger groups.

The interior has a slightly retro atmosphere, but what stood out most was how the Moksam Hwaro staff kept checking the pork shoulder. It did not feel like a place that simply takes your order and calls it a day; it felt like they really care about the meat itself.

A place with plenty of sauces for the meat
Moksam Hwaro had quite a variety of sauces. There were meat-friendly pairings such as Maldon salt, pollack roe with truffle oil, meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce), wasabi, and myeonginamul (pickled mountain garlic leaves), along with more unusual options like tonkatsu sauce and breadcrumbs.

At first I wondered why there were so many sauces, but switching things up bite by bite between pork shoulder and pork belly meant I never got tired of it until the end.

Definitely try the doenjang sulbap alongside it

A Moksam platter par-grilled and finished at the perfect time
At this Nowon Korean BBQ restaurant, we ordered the Moksam platter and doenjang sulbap. Rather than putting the meat straight onto the grill, they first show you its condition, then par-grill it and bring it out.

From this point on, Moksam Hwaro's style really became clear.

Their explanation says they have researched this for 10 years, and it did not feel exaggerated: they cooked the par-grilled meat a little more at the table and watched it so we could eat it at its best moment.

They even placed the first piece on a plate for us and suggested trying it with Maldon salt. That bite was more memorable than I expected.

The staff-grilled pork shoulder was genuinely impressive. It was thick but not dry, and when I bit into it, it was full of juices with an immediate rich, savory flavor.

The pork belly also picked up a subtle charcoal aroma, and its richness was not overwhelming, so even people who do not usually like pork belly enjoyed it...

The Moksam platter combination with doenjang sulbap
I thought it would be a shame to finish with only meat, so we ordered doenjang sulbap too, and it stayed with me more than I expected.

Usually, doenjang sulbap at a Korean BBQ restaurant feels strongly like a finishing dish, but here the soybean-paste flavor was rich and the ingredients were generous enough that it felt like a proper dish in its own right.

We had plenty of the Moksam platter, then paired it with bites of doenjang sulbap, and the combination was really good.

Moksam Hwaro Nowon Main Branch, where the staff cook the meat themselves, was not simply a place with good-quality meat; it was a place that cares about exactly how to cook it for the best flavor.

I liked that they cooked everything carefully from the par-grill right up to the moment before eating, while the many sauce choices let you enjoy changing flavors throughout one platter. The juicy pork shoulder was especially memorable to me, and my friend who lives near Nowon was so pleased beyond expectations that they said they had to come back with their family.
If you are looking for somewhere comfortable to eat with a friend around Nowon Station, how about Moksam Hwaro, where you do not have the burden of grilling and the staff cook each piece for you? If it is your first visit, I recommend ordering the Moksam platter with doenjang sulbap.
Both the pork shoulder and pork belly are excellent, but here is one personal tip: if your companion is running late, or if you are, I recommend arriving first and ordering. The staff-grilling system is so nice, but it naturally takes a little time, so this takes the pressure off the late person and lets everyone dig in properly together.
