Daeheung Station seafood restaurant, gizzard shad sekkoshi: Mapo Bada
In short
Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada is a seasonal seafood and sashimi restaurant that opened on September 2 near Exit 3 of Daeheung Station in Mapo, Seoul. The Mapo Bada Signature Set at 151,000 won came out like a course meal — mixed sashimi with tender gizzard shad sekkoshi, a seafood platter, live octopus, grilled gizzard shad, abalone porridge and salt-grilled shrimp — and on this visit a spicy fish stew arrived free because the fryer was out of action. Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada is a table-bending spread that suits office dinners and family gatherings.

Today I'm bringing you a raw fish restaurant piled high with seasonal seafood, where the dishes come out course by course — perfect for office dinners and family gatherings alike, the kind of spread that really breaks the table's legs. Curious how generous it actually was? Definitely worth a visit after reading this post!!

A short walk from Line 6 Daeheung Station Exit 3 and you'll see the vertical signboard of today's restaurant, Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada~

Opened September 2, so this is a totally brand-new spot! A set-menu restaurant where you can enjoy all kinds of seasonal dishes.

Fish tanks and interior: full tables days after opening
Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada has a fish tank right by the entrance, and the spacious dining room has plenty of space between tables so you can eat comfortably. Right before stepping in, opening wreaths line the entrance with the tank peeking through behind them, true to a brand-new restaurant.
From the gizzard shad swimming in the tank, to the shellfish for the seafood platter, to the sashimi cuts and fresh shrimp — you could just see the freshness.
The spacious dining room had enough room between tables to eat comfortably, and it seemed well-suited for both office dinners and family gatherings. It was already full and I barely got a table — impressive popularity for such a new place! Seeing everyone digging into their own generous spread made me want to start eating right away too~

The Mapo Bada Signature Set, where you can try everything on the menu, seemed to be the flagship item~! Just reading the menu made me go wow!!

They had a nice variety of drinks too, more than enough for a proper office dinner~
What comes in the 151,000 won Mapo Bada Signature Set?
We ordered the Mapo Bada Signature Set 15.1, the flagship item at ₩151,000. They practically slid the whole table over to us, fully loaded — that feeling of a giant spread rolling in has a special charm, aah~
Dish after dish of good-looking food, I didn't even know where to start. Meanwhile the shrimp were still flipping around alive!!!

- Mixed sashimi with live shrimp and gizzard shad on top
- Cold boiled pork that paired amazingly with seasoned chamnamul (wild chervil)
- Seafood platter with fresh sea cucumber, sea squirt, abalone and scallops
- Live octopus that was still wriggling, freshly caught (well, it was freshly caught after all)
- Tofu kimchi loaded with pork, alongside fluffy steamed egg
- Four whole plump grilled gizzard shad
- Abalone porridge loaded with innards, seaweed soup, and side dishes
And it's not over yet~ abalone porridge loaded with innards, seaweed soup, side dishes and more~ Seriously generous. Alright, let's dig in~
Live octopus and raw sweet shrimp
I slurped up the live octopus first, before it could die (?). Tossed in sesame oil for a nutty flavor, it wriggled so much the suckers clung to my chopsticks — freshness on another level~

The sweet, moist flavor of the fresh shrimp sashimi left an impression too~

Mixed sashimi with tender gizzard shad sekkoshi
The sashimi was so fresh, the chewy texture was outstanding~ No matter how you ate it, the fish was fresh and nutty, really delicious. Even I, who's not usually a fan of sekkoshi (bone-in sliced fish), could enjoy the gizzard shad sekkoshi because the bones weren't tough at all — nice and tender~

Scallops, the best part of the seafood platter
Everything in the seafood platter was fresh and delicious, but~

The scallop especially made me realize just how sweet a scallop can taste — not a hint of fishiness, just sweet flesh filling my mouth, truly delicious.

The plump grilled gizzard shad also had soft bones, so once you remove the spine (?), the remaining bones weren't tough at all and were easy to eat~

I cleansed my palate (?) a bit with the savory abalone porridge loaded with innards and the steamed egg~

Finished off filling and satisfying with the cold boiled pork and tofu kimchi... Ate so well and so full at Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada. It was delicious!!!!
Salt-grilled shrimp served by the potful
And it's still not over~! There were still palm-sized shrimp left that had been flipping around alive — turned into a generous plate of salt-grilled shrimp~

I thought the grilled shrimp would just be a small part of the set, but it came out in a pot completely full — no need to go anywhere else for grilled shrimp~

Munched on the plump shrimp meat. Both the freshness and the sweetness of the flesh were fantastic~
If you set the heads aside~ you might think you're grilling them yourself... nope!!!! They fry them up crispy for you~

And this was so crispy and nutty~ Even the whiskers and legs, the sharp parts, get fried so they're crunchy and crumbly, full of that nutty flavor from the head innards~ Really delicious.
Free spicy fish stew instead of the fried course
That day, Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada had a fryer equipment issue, so instead of the fried dish, they gave us spicy fish stew for free — honestly, even better!!!
The savory fish oil floating on top looked amazing — I expected something more like a basic fish bone stew, but no, it was loaded with flesh, like a can of tuna practically.

Picking the meat off and enjoying the rich broth drawn from the flesh and bones was such a fun way to finish — a really delicious closing stew. Full, satisfied, fresh and delicious all the way through!!!
Is Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada worth it for office and family dinners?
I visited Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada, a go-to restaurant and drinking spot in Daeheung-dong. Even though it just opened, it was already packed full — a raw fish restaurant already this popular. And honestly, calling it just a raw fish restaurant doesn't quite cover it — every dish beyond the seafood was delicious too, more like a proper seasonal-cooking restaurant.
With the set menu, you can enjoy such a wide range of fresh seafood and dishes that everyone can pick according to their taste and eat generously — I highly recommend Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada for office dinners or family gatherings at a raw fish restaurant. I'm confident everyone will leave satisfied~!
