Lately, while managing my diet, I’ve been trying to have homemade salads and protein-focused meals in the morning—but every now and then, I crave a burger. A delicious handmade burger made with fresh vegetables and a juicy beef patty makes for a satisfying, well-balanced meal of carbs, protein, and fat. You can add or skip the fries depending on the day, so it’s perfect for a diet, too. This is the story of a fantastic handmade burger spot in Gongdeok, made by a chef with 10 years of experience who trained at Le Cordon Bleu—complete with nutty buns and house-made sauces.

Finding Quokka Bite from Daeheung Station
The place I visited this time was Quokka Bite (쿼카바이트), a great lunch spot near Gongdeok Station. It’s a five-minute walk from Exit 3 of Daeheung Station, near Yonggang Elementary School.

Even on my first visit, the shop stood out right away! The cute quokka mascot welcomes you, and the red-and-white striped awning catches your eye first.

Quokka Bite, a date-friendly restaurant near Gyeongui Line Forest Park, has a menu posted outside, so you can check it before going in.

This is the doormat in front of the door. “Smile with every bite!!” The quokka holding a burger is so cute.

Open Kitchen and Kiosk Ordering
Inside this Gongdeok handmade burger spot, the owner personally takes orders and cooks in the open kitchen directly in front of you. Further inside are wood-toned tables, while an adorable quokka family in the wall cabinet welcomes you.

You can order at the kiosk. Quokka Bite’s handmade burgers are made by a chef with 10 years of experience who trained at Le Cordon Bleu. With buttery brioche buns, juicy beef patties, fresh vegetables, and house-made sauces, it’s a wonderfully balanced handmade burger spot in Gongdeok. I usually care a lot about the balance of a beef patty, so I was really looking forward to it.

I also liked that there was such a variety of patties, from beef to chicken and shrimp.

The country-of-origin information is clearly displayed, too. The chicken uses both Korean and Brazilian chicken; for the Whole Shrimp Quokka Burger, the pork is Korean and the shrimp is from Vietnam.

Wow, the presentation is incredible!!

Avocado Smash Quokka Burger
It comes generously loaded with a large whole avocado, bacon, and a juicy grilled beef patty! And of course, there are caramelized grilled onions and fresh vegetables, too. Haha.

I ordered a bottle of Stella because I was in the mood for beer. I really want that Stella beer glass.

The patties are cooked over an open flame to bring out their flavor, so you can enjoy a warm burger that is deeply seared on the outside and moist within.

Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger
The Whole Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger is packed with springy shrimp meat! This isn’t a burger that just has “shrimp” in the name—it’s a real shrimp burger with actual whole shrimp inside.

The rich brioche bun, coleslaw, and house-made sauce went beautifully with the ingredients, and I liked that the seasoning was not too strong.
Quokka Bite is a great handmade burger spot in Gongdeok! The juicy beef patty, fresh vegetables, and rich brioche bun were delicious, and the piping-hot handmade burgers were especially memorable. I recommend it as a restaurant near Gyeongui Line Forest Park.
