Gongdeok roastery café with four hand-drip beans: Ieo Coffee Roasters
In short
Ieo Coffee Roasters is a roastery café in an alley beside the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail in Gongdeok, Mapo, Seoul. Sitting alone at the window bar table on a break from the office, the writer compared the four hand-drip beans (6,000–9,000 won) and drank the Colombia Villa Clara Watermelon with a Basque cheesecake. Both the coffee and the dessert at Ieo Coffee Roasters were satisfying — an easy stop on a workday.

I didn't want to walk back into the office... It was one of those days I really needed to heal. I wanted really good coffee and dessert somewhere near work, so I went looking and ended up at Ieo Coffee Roasters near Daeheung/Gongdeok. It's right next to the burger place I visited recently.

Inside the Gongdeok alley café beside the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail
Ieo Coffee Roasters sits in an alley beside the Gongdeok section of the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, a stretch with a surprising number of hidden restaurants and cafés. Plants out front, wood tones inside — it has that small neighborhood café feel.

The interior is cute and clean, and there's a friendly + handsome owner running the place.

Window bar table for solo visits — with an outlet
There's a note apologizing that the round table seats four and is their only group table, plus a window bar where you can quietly zone out with an alley view — outlets right there too, so you could get some work done. Since I was solo today just for coffee and healing, I took the window seat.

Ieo Coffee Roasters menu: signature drinks and hand-drip coffee
The signatures here are the almond latte, cream almond, and basil milk tea. The almond milk base is made in-house over a 12-hour process, so the almond flavor really comes through — seems like most people order these. But I love filter coffee more than lattes, and one of the hand-drip beans caught my eye, so I ordered hand-drip instead :)

Four hand-drip beans: prices and tasting notes

- Colombia Villa Clara Watermelon — watermelon + black tea + lemon zest, on the fragrant and acidic side, ₩9,000
- Cameroon Oku Elak Semi-Washed — raisin + prune + orange, mild acidity with a heavy sweetness, ₩7,500
- Ethiopia Sidama Bensa Hamasho G1 — grape + blueberry + cashew, strong fragrance and acidity, ₩6,500
- Timor Ermera AAA — cacao + walnut, no acidity, chocolatey sweetness with a heavier body, ₩6,000
All four beans have their own character. Ethiopia is totally my style, but I was too curious about the Colombia one, so I picked that today.
Desserts at Ieo Coffee Roasters: cheesecake, egg tart, cookies

The dessert lineup isn't huge — just cheesecake, egg tart, and cookies — but I actually like it when a place keeps it small. I don't really eat cookies, so it was between the egg tart and the cheesecake. The egg tart looked clearly delicious too, but eating both felt... scary for the waistline, so I compromised on just the cheesecake. They pull the cheesecake out of the fridge when you order.
What I ordered: Colombia Watermelon and Basque cheesecake
Look how pretty this came out. They served the cheesecake laid on its side in a slightly unusual way haha — different and I liked it.

The one I'd been so curious about — the 'Colombia Villa Clara Watermelon.' It's beans anaerobically fermented with actual watermelon, supposedly giving a sweet juiciness like ripe watermelon, and honestly, it really does taste like watermelon juice haha. Perfect for this weather, with the subtle scent of black tea and lemon coming through too — not an overwhelming acidity but a pleasant, moderate brightness.

Drinking hand-drip coffee like this makes you appreciate the bean flavors on a deeper level — you start noticing, oh, coffee can taste like this. If you're new to hand-drip, I think this one could pull you in with a real 'oh wow' moment.
A little small in size, which was a bit of a letdown, but taste-wise this was the best Basque cheesecake I've had recently. Super soft inside, that sweet custard flavor with the cheese pairing so well with the coffee — the kind that melts away stress and gives you a small moment of joy. This place is good at both the coffee and the desserts...

Is Ieo Coffee Roasters Gongdeok worth a stop?
Ieo Coffee Roasters left both my mouth and my heart feeling good. The coffee, the desserts, and the owner's kindness were all really satisfying. A nice place to stop by for a bit of healing on a workday :)
