Yangyang café with smoothies and riverside walks: Cafe Dunchi

In short

Cafe Dunchi is a café by the lower Namdaecheon in Yangyang, Gangwon, where I had coffee and smoothies with my children before taking an electric boat ride. The terrace views and nearby walking paths made for an enjoyable family stop, though the public restroom required a short walk outside.

After a one-night, two-day trip to Yangyang with my children, we went to Cafe Dunchi (카페 둔치) after checking out of our accommodation on the second day. It was a place where we could have drinks as well as try an electric boat experience.

Where is Cafe Dunchi, and is parking convenient?

The address is 295 Ilchul-ro, Yangyang-eup, Yangyang-gun. There is a large parking lot, and the café hours listed in the original post were daily from 10:00 to 21:00, with last orders at 20:30. Boat operating hours were 10:00 to 18:00, which differed from the café hours.

We had to use an outdoor public restroom. It required a short walk, but it was clean and well maintained when I visited.

Cafe Dunchi location and visitor information

Is there space to walk or relax with children?

The café is on the lower Namdaecheon. Looking around, I could see the distant sea horizon and mountains together, which made the scenery enjoyable.

Right next door, Namdaecheon Salmon Ecological Park had a deck path and an observation deck among reeds and silver grass. It was nice for a light walk before or after drinks, and after walking a little farther, we found a children's playground as well.

The boat area was on the first floor, while the café was on the second. Upstairs, the interior was spacious, with group seating and terrace seats, so I felt it would suit families or larger groups. The children were fascinated by the waterfront below from the terrace.

How much were the drinks, and what did the children have?

At the time of my visit, they were selling desserts including cookies, bread, and cake. Along with coffee, there were drinks such as ginger latte and iced omija.

The iced Americano we ordered was ₩5,500, and the iced vanilla latte was ₩6,500. Mango, blueberry, and strawberry smoothies were ₩7,000 each. I heard that the beans were supplied frequently in small batches from a roastery in Gangneung, and the coffee I had was nutty and clean-tasting.

The children each chose a mango, blueberry, or strawberry smoothie. They drank them well because they were refreshing and sweet, and after sharing sips, they wanted the blueberry smoothie the most.

What was the electric boat ride like with children?

The part I remember most from this visit was the electric boat experience run by the Namdaecheon Water Sports Experience Center on the first floor.

Both adults and children wore life jackets before boarding. Blankets were also available for anyone who gets cold easily.

We could bring drinks onto the boat, so we enjoyed them cool on the river. The controls were simple, and the children took turns trying them. When I rode it, the boat did not feel fast and felt stable.

We could also connect by Bluetooth and play music. We rode while listening to children's songs, and I enjoyed the time spent on the water with our drinks.

What did we like about stopping by on a family trip?

After walking around the area, having coffee and smoothies, and then taking the boat, we were able to do several things together with the children. Having to walk to the outdoor restroom was a drawback, but both the adults and children were happy with the visit. Next time, I would like to come with my parents too.
