Gimssi Chicken is a short way in on the right once you enter through Gate 4 of Amsa Market. Across from it are a Jimbox store, a vegetable shop, and a tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) restaurant.

I happened to stop at that vegetable shop across the way first, and coming out I must have just missed Gimssi Chicken. I walked right past and had to circle back, haha. The shops in the market are packed so tightly together that it's easy to miss one if you're not paying attention, like I did.

If it's your first time going, watch the right side carefully as soon as you enter through Gate 4! It's shop No. 99.

Dakgangjeong flavors and sizes: why the medium-spicy extra-large won

The dakgangjeong at Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch comes in three flavors — mild, medium-spicy, and spicy! Sizes are medium, large, and extra-large. Medium is ₩9,000, large is ₩13,000, extra-large is ₩17,000.

I picked medium-spicy in the large size. Lately I really don't like getting a stomachache from spicy food, haha. Even people who can't handle spice well should be fine with the medium-spicy option.

Old-school whole fried chicken too, plus 500-won sauce add-ons

I bought the old-school whole chicken too, and added sauce as well. Sauce is ₩500 each!

Maybe because it's a market spot, even the sauce was cheap. Getting the dakgangjeong and the old-school whole chicken together meant I could enjoy two flavors at once, which had me looking forward to it.

The owner skewered some plain fried chicken and seasoned dakgangjeong on sticks for me to try while they were still warm. Cheers with mom!

Waited about 5 minutes for the dakgangjeong and whole chicken, then headed home 😁

The seasoned salt has cinnamon in it, which makes it even tastier! 👍👍

Gloves on, and time to really dig in, haha. Browsing the market, doing a bit of grocery shopping, and bringing home some dakgangjeong on top of it made for a nice little mood boost. There's a Han River park nearby too, so on a nice day it'd be great to take it there instead.
