Spicy sauced chicken takeout at an Amsa Market chicken shop in Seoul

I was walking through Amsa Market when I spotted a chicken shop with people lined up! That was Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch 🍗 There must be several chicken shops in the market, but this one naturally caught my eye because customers were gathered right out front 😆 I waited a little while too and took some chicken home!

I usually love wandering markets and picking up food to bring home, so I was excited to see what I'd end up eating this time.

Where is Gimssi Chicken in Amsa Market, and how long is the line?

Gimssi Chicken Amsa Market Branch is inside Amsa Market near Amsa Station! The yellow and red sign stands out, so it's easy to spot as you walk through the market. When I visited, customers waiting to order were lined up out front 🤭

The staff were busy frying and packing chicken, and watching them made me even more eager to try it myself! Out front you could also see freshly fried chicken being lifted out of the oil. With a huge prep counter piled high with chicken, it really had that mouthwatering market atmosphere 🥰

🍗 Everything from fried chicken to dakgangjeong. Looking over the menu board, there was a wide range including dakgangjeong, fried chicken, and old-style whole chicken! Dakgangjeong came in mild, medium-spicy, and spicy, and they also sold boneless fried chicken.

For the old-style whole chicken, you could choose between fried or sauced, and with whole chickens displayed right at the front counter, it looked even more tempting 😊

The price posted at the time of my visit showed a whole bone-in fried chicken for takeout at ₩9,900! It seemed like an easy, affordable option if you want to grab chicken from the market and eat it at home.

Old-style fried chicken and spicy sauced chicken tasted at home

😋 This time I took home both fried and sauced chicken! First off, the fried whole chicken already looked great, golden-brown all over.

You've got to start with the drumstick!! As I picked up a piece, the crispy fried surface really stood out 😄 Taking a bite, the outside was crunchy while the meat inside was soft and tender.

The coating wasn't overly thick, so it paired nicely with the chicken, and I could really taste that classic savory fried chicken flavor! It was easy to eat by hand, with plenty of crispy bits, so I enjoyed it a lot 😋 The sauced chicken had a completely different charm from the fried version!

I got the spicy flavor for takeout~ The chicken was coated all over in a glossy sauce, and one bite hit spicy and salty at the same time 😆 The sauce paired so well with the chicken that after one piece, my hand naturally reached for the next one lol. After eating fried chicken for a while, switching to sauced chicken felt like a nice change, and it was great to alternate between the two! Unwrapping the takeout at home and digging in felt like properly enjoying market chicken ~~😊
