Dongtan kalguksu restaurant with mild broth for kids: Yubok Haemul
In short
Yubok Haemul Kalguksu Dongtan Direct Branch is a Korean kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant near Dongtan Central Park in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. Two servings of kalguksu and one octopus seafood chive pancake came with a clear, mild broth that was easy to share with a child, and the homemade noodles and kimchi were the highlights. The kalguksu itself tasted fairly ordinary, but with the pancake alongside, Yubok Haemul Kalguksu makes an easy, comfortable meal.

Today I'm sharing an honest review of Yubok Haemul Kalguksu Dongtan branch, a Korean restaurant near Dongtan Central Park~!
Choosing a Korean meal to eat with a child near Dongtan Central Park

When eating out with a kid, you end up looking for something the whole family can eat without worrying about spice rather than anything too strong-flavored. This time we went to Yubok Haemul Kalguksu, at Dongtan Central Park.
Kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) is fine to eat with a kid, and I thought the adults could enjoy a pancake alongside it, so we ordered kalguksu together with an octopus seafood chive pancake. To cut to the chase: the kalguksu was mild and unassuming with a clean broth that was easy to eat, and the seafood chive pancake was genuinely delicious.
Where is Yubok Haemul Kalguksu Dongtan branch, and what is the space like?

Yubok Haemul Kalguksu Dongtan Direct Branch sits near Dongtan Central Park, so it's a solid option if you're looking for somewhere to eat in the area. The interior is spacious and clean, and it looked comfortable enough for either a family meal or a group dinner.
We ordered two servings of kalguksu and an octopus seafood chive pancake that day. Kalguksu alone can feel a little plain, so we added a pancake dish, and it turned out to be a great combination.

Homemade kalguksu noodles in a clean pufferfish broth
Before the mains arrive, a little barley rice comes out first, which is great for whetting your appetite. Not long after, the kalguksu arrived with a fairly clear broth. When you think seafood kalguksu, you might expect a thick, spicy broth, but Yubok Haemul Kalguksu was clean and mild overall.

One bite in, there was barely any strong flavor, so it went down easy without any burden on the stomach — good for eating with a kid. The noodles were also a bit different from typical kalguksu noodles. Being homemade, they had a soft yet chewy texture. Broth and noodles together made for a decent overall balance.
But honestly, the taste wasn't anything super special. It didn't feel like 'a unique kalguksu you can only get here' — more on the ordinary side. That's not to say it lacked flavor, though; the mild taste actually made it perfect for a low-pressure meal.

Especially when eating out with a kid, a mild dish like this is easier to feed them than something too spicy or heavily seasoned. So if you go in expecting a comfortable meal rather than bold flavors, this kalguksu should suit you well.
And the kimchi served with the kalguksu was really good. At a kalguksu restaurant, good kimchi makes the whole meal taste better, and here the kimchi really hit the spot. I kept reaching for more, eating a bite of noodles with kimchi over and over.
How was the crispy, golden octopus seafood chive pancake?

The dish I personally enjoyed most this meal was the octopus seafood chive pancake. The moment it arrived, the golden, well-fried look alone was appetizing. The outside was crispy while the inside stayed pleasantly soft rather than tough — the texture was really nice.

With chives, seafood, and octopus all packed in, you could really taste the ingredients. Crispiness matters most for a pancake like this, and the outside was fried to a nice golden brown, so the first bite was properly crispy. Since the kalguksu broth is on the mild side, eating the seafood chive pancake in between kept things from feeling monotonous. Of everything we ate that day, the octopus seafood chive pancake was the most memorable. If you order kalguksu here, pairing it with a pancake dish is a really good combination.
Who is Yubok Haemul Kalguksu right for?
To sum up, Yubok Haemul Kalguksu isn't a place that wins you over with bold seasoning or strong flavors, but it's a good kalguksu restaurant for a light, clean meal. The kalguksu itself felt a bit ordinary, honestly, but the clear, clean broth and soft homemade noodles were solid, and the kimchi was the best part. The octopus seafood chive pancake, meanwhile, had genuinely great crispy, golden texture and flavor.
It's a good spot to visit if you're looking for somewhere to eat with a kid near Dongtan Central Park, or if you just want a comfortable, mild meal without anything too strong-flavored.
