With the cool morning and evening breezes lately, I found myself craving kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), so I headed to a Dongtan kalguksu favorite — Yubok Haemul Kalguksu Dongtan Direct Branch. Here's my review!
Where is Yubok Haemul Kalguksu Dongtan Direct Branch, and where do you park?
Yubok Haemul Kalguksu Dongtan Direct Branch is located near Dongtan Central Park!

There's parking space right in front of the restaurant, and if it's full, you can use the Central Park public parking lot (free for 1.5 hours) — very convenient if you're driving. It also runs without a break time, so it's great to visit anytime during operating hours!
Window-view seats and inside the restaurant
I visited past the lunch peak so I could enjoy the meal more leisurely.

Thanks to that, I got to sit at the best window-view seat!

The overall interior had a clean white-and-wood tone that went really well with the green view outside the window!

To the right of the entrance, there was also group seating available.

Yubok Haemul Kalguksu Dongtan Direct Branch, a Dongtan kalguksu favorite, takes pride in making its own noodles, using fresh seafood delivered same-day, and its deep, rich pufferfish broth.

Along with a reassuring notice that leftover food is never reused, there was a neatly organized self-service bar where you could freely grab extra side dishes, aprons, and tableware, which made me trust the place even more!
Can you order one serving? Barley rice before the meal

One reason I'd recommend Yubok Haemul Kalguksu Dongtan Direct Branch as a Bansong-dong, Dongtan favorite for lunch is that you can order single servings! To try a bit of everything, I ordered grilled webfoot octopus stir-fry, haemul kalguksu, and perilla leaf pancake.

Barley rice and basic side dishes — a must at any Dongtan kalguksu favorite.

I mixed the barley rice with shredded radish and ate it as a pre-meal appetizer! Next came the first dish —
Seafood kalguksu: noodles and seafood come out separately

Unusually, the seafood and noodles come out separately.

You add the handmade fresh noodles and same-day delivered seafood to the clear, deep pufferfish broth, simmer for 3 minutes, then adjust the heat as you cook it further.

Following the table instructions, once the hourglass ran out, I adjusted the heat and skimmed off a bit of the foam — the broth ended up much cleaner and more refreshing.

Maybe because the noodles are handmade, the broth got richer the longer it simmered, and the noodles never got mushy — they stayed chewy right to the end, truly living up to being a Dongtan kalguksu favorite!

Perilla leaf pancake

Golden and crispy, the perilla leaf pancake was delicious on its own thanks to the fragrant perilla and nutty texture, and it also paired perfectly with the spicy octopus stir-fry!

Flame-grilled webfoot octopus stir-fry: generous for one serving

The grilled webfoot octopus stir-fry came out last, and look how generous it is for a single serving! The smoky, sweet-and-spicy sauce soaked well into the chewy octopus, and it paired great with the kalguksu too!

You can also mix the kalguksu noodles lightly into the octopus stir-fry sauce and enjoy it like a bibim (mixed) kalguksu! Since you can order single servings, I recommend this combo of haemul kalguksu, grilled webfoot octopus stir-fry, and perilla leaf pancake like I did!!! Haha.
Is Yubok Haemul Kalguksu worth it for solo dining?
