Guro Chinese restaurant seafood jjamppong: Junghwa Yori Hyeon
In short
Junghwa Yori Hyeon is a Chinese restaurant in Guro, Seoul, on the B1 level of Ace Twin Tower 1. I tried a mini sweet-and-sour pork set, a meal, and fried dumplings with seafood-packed stir-fried jjamppong; the octopus, squid, and springy noodles stood out. Verdict: a place I’d recommend when a spicy, seafood-filled stir-fried jjamppong is calling.

If you asked me for my favorite Chinese restaurant menu, sweet-and-sour pork would be No. 1, and stir-fried jjamppong would land somewhere around No. 4 or 5.

I heard there was a place with great stir-fried jjamppong, so I visited Junghwa Yori Hyeon (중화요리현) in Guro Digital Complex! Here’s my honest review of proper stir-fried jjamppong.
Junghwa Yori Hyeon location and parking
It is at B106, Ace Twin Tower 1, 285 Digital-ro, Guro-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with last orders at 20:30.
Parking is free for the first 60 minutes, then costs ₩2,000 per 30 minutes. Park on B1, then enter through the elevator lobby and you can walk straight into the restaurant.

The B1 restaurant

Junghwa Yori Hyeon is located on B1.

The dinner sets are seriously good value. I really want to come back here with a group sometime.
A neat, compact interior

The interior is neat and compact. The two large jars by the main entrance really create that classic Chinese restaurant feeling.
The menu and my order
The menu is enormous, haha. It may be more about the range of combinations than the absolute number of dishes, but still—there are a lot. As an office worker, I’m absolutely here for this kind of broad variety and all these combinations.
I ordered the mini set, one meal, and fried dumplings.

The mini set includes mini sweet-and-sour pork and one meal, and the price changes depending on which meal you choose.
Seafood-packed stir-fried jjamppong

A generous, mouthwatering spread.

The stir-fried jjamppong is seriously substantial. The plate is so overflowing that I wondered, did I order the extra-large portion?

Junghwa Yori Hyeon’s sweet-and-sour pork sticks to the basics. It seems to come sauce-poured by default, so if you prefer dipping the pork in sauce, you should let them know in advance.

No-frills fried dumplings, nicely fried to a golden brown.
Just looking at it, you can tell Junghwa Yori Hyeon’s stir-fried jjamppong is loaded. I’ve never been somewhere with this many toppings besides the noodles. It has a deep seafood aroma and bean sprouts too, so it slightly has the vibe of agujjim (braised monkfish), haha.

Delicious... it’s delicious. The balance is excellent: not too spicy or salty, just right. The subtle wok hei is great too.

The sweet-and-sour pork is also very solid. Sometimes you get these stingy pieces thinner than a finger, but Junghwa Yori Hyeon’s are genuinely big and hefty. How do they stay crispy even after soaking in the sauce?

The fried dumplings go surprisingly well with the spicy stir-fried jjamppong, haha.

Junghwa Yori Hyeon’s stir-fried jjamppong is quite addictive. Maybe because it was quickly stir-fried over high heat, the noodles never got soggy and stayed wonderfully bouncy, heh.

Seafood kept appearing no matter how much I ate. I visited fairly late, and there was so much seafood it felt as though they had put in everything that needed using up that day, haha. I was simply touched.

Eating stir-fried jjamppong and sweet-and-sour pork together is another special treat. Spicy, sweet, and salty all in one. Eat them this way and you can keep going forever.

Wood ear mushrooms and squid. Junghwa Yori Hyeon’s stir-fried jjamppong is great because, between bites of noodles, you get to enjoy all sorts of textures.

And among the surprising toppings was octopus. Octopus at this price! Delivery orders kept coming into the kitchen while I was there, and a great many of them were for stir-fried jjamppong. Well... that makes total sense!
Can you feel that chew? Junghwa Yori Hyeon’s stir-fried jjamppong stayed springy the entire time I ate it, without ever getting soggy!
Dr. Gom’s nutrition check

Because stir-fried jjamppong is made by stir-frying seafood in oil and enjoyed without broth, its sodium burden tends to be relatively lower than regular jjamppong.
Squid is rich in taurine, which may help support liver function and recovery from fatigue. As a high-protein, low-fat food, it is also relatively easy to fit into a diet.
Octopus is a seafood relatively high in iron and zinc. It may help prevent anemia and maintain immune function. Studies suggest that omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids in various seafood may help support vascular health and reduce inflammation.
Because stir-frying can increase the oil content, it can help to manage portion size and oil intake.
If you’re looking for stir-fried jjamppong

I sought out Junghwa Yori Hyeon in Guro Digital Complex because I was craving properly stir-fried jjamppong.
The portion was generous enough to mistake for an extra-large serving, and the bowl overflowed with seafood including octopus and squid. I couldn’t help but be impressed.
If you want to try high-quality stir-fried jjamppong near Gudi Station, with seafood added without holding back, this is a place I’d recommend without hesitation.
