After cutting my hair to a medium length, the ends kept flipping outward, so I was unsure whether to cut it shorter or wait for it to grow out. At Urban Ground Hair Sangwangsimni Station Branch (어반그라운드헤어 상왕십리역점), which a friend recommended, I discussed my hair condition and received a layered perm, root-volume perm, and Milbon treatment.
Where is the salon and when is it open?
The salon is near Sangwangsimni Station, on the second floor of VIP Building at 353 Wangsimni-ro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. At the time of the original post, its listed hours were 10 AM to 8 PM Tuesday through Saturday and 10 AM to 7 PM Sunday. It was regularly closed on Mondays, and guests arriving by car were advised to contact the salon about parking.
What are the treatment and waiting areas like?
When I entered, I found a spacious salon with good natural light. The clean white interior gave it a café-like feel.
Large windows gave a clear view of the road outside. It seemed like a comfortable place to wait during a perm, whether for yourself or someone accompanying you.
I put my belongings in a cabinet prepared for my reservation and changed into the gown inside. I appreciated the care that had gone into preparing things before my visit.
What are the haircut prices and treatment options?
The listed haircut prices were ₩28,000 for a basic cut, ₩32,000 for a design cut, and ₩20,000 for a student cut.
When I said I was worried that a perm might damage my hair, they recommended a premium and Milbon treatment set. I also added a root perm.
I was told that the VIP membership could also be used by family, acquaintances, and friends. There were treatment products and sprays in one area of the salon.
I could also choose a welcome drink. I chose an iced Americano, and they gave me snacks to eat during the treatment.
What perm was suggested for flat, straight medium-length hair?
Before the treatment, I was concerned that my hair lay completely flat and lacked volume. After asking in detail about my hair condition and preferred style, they recommended a layered C-curl perm and a root perm.
I started with a shampoo. They checked the water temperature, washed my hair gently, and gave me a scalp massage with comfortable pressure, which felt relaxing.
After the shampoo, they examined my wet hair again and recommended a direct perm, explaining that my hair was straight. They checked my hair condition not only during the consultation but also after shampooing to determine the treatment direction.
How did the root and layered perms proceed?
They began with the root-volume treatment. They wrapped the rollers without pulling at my scalp and checked from time to time that I was not in pain.
For the lower part of my hair, they used larger rollers for the direct perm.
They checked that it was not too hot during the treatment. I appreciated that they explained the current step and what would happen next, so I could follow the process.
How was the Milbon treatment and my hair afterward?
I received the neutralization and Milbon treatment in the spa area. There was a massage chair there.
Even after trimming the damaged parts, my hair felt dry, so I hoped it would look shinier. The Milbon treatment had three stages.
They explained that stages one and three used products to soften the hair, while stage two used a product to replenish keratin. The shampoo and acupressure massage I received during the process also felt refreshing.
I liked the curls in the finished medium-length layered perm. Right after the treatment, my hair did not feel damaged to me, so I was satisfied.
I liked the front view as well as the shape from the back. I was also satisfied with how they assessed my hair condition and checked throughout the treatment for any discomfort.
