Sunday night jokbal set for two near Sunae Station: Wangchang Jokbal

In short

Wangchang Jokbal is a jokbal (braised pig's trotters) restaurant on the first floor of the Daedeok Glory Building, a 5-minute walk from Sunae Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a Sunday night a couple ordered the original jokbal in medium size for 44,000 won and received a full table of extras — spicy salted oysters, pickled radish, dried radish green soup and steamed egg — with no space left to set anything down. Parking in the building lot is easy and leftovers are packed to go, so a medium at Wangchang Jokbal is plenty for two.

I used to live right in front of Sunae Station, and Wangchang Jokbal is where my husband and I came back when we were still dating haha. It's been a while since I visited again. Even just walking by, you can see the glossy piles of jokbal (braised pig's trotters) stacked up — the visuals alone make you want to walk in.

Where is Wangchang Jokbal, and is there parking near Sunae Station?

First, the location: it's a 5-minute walk from Sunae Station. If you're driving, parking is available too, so come however's convenient. I used to come here often back when I went to Jim Ryan Gym since it's in the same parking building — it's roomy, so no need to worry about finding a spot! We parked and ate there this time too.

I visited on a Sunday night. The store is on the corner of the first floor! When I went, there were quite a few customers picking up takeout too. Makes sense — the smell is great, and even just passing by it looks so chewy and tender.

What is the dining room at Wangchang Jokbal like?

The interior is clean with quite a lot of tables, so it'd be great for a group dinner too. Coming back as a wife after coming here as a girlfriend hit me with some nostalgia — but the service was super kind then, and it's super kind now too.

Wangchang Jokbal menu and prices: which size for two people?

The menu is posted on the wall! Since the two of us can't handle spicy food, we ordered the Wangchang Original Jokbal — but if you like spicy food, there's a spicy jokbal option too haha. We considered trying it, but the staff warned it could be spicier than expected, so we stuck with the regular one. The medium size is ₩44,000. They also sell sides like makguksu, sujebi, and buchujeon.

Going as two people, the medium size will get you insanely full, and I think even three people could eat comfortably off a medium. If two of you can't finish it, they'll pack up the leftovers, so just go wangchang (all out) haha.

The side dishes and the spicy salted oysters

First out come the salted oyster, ssamjang, radish pickles, chive pickles, and radish wraps to eat alongside everything. And honestly, I think the kick of this place is the spicy salted oyster. It's genuinely delicious... Maybe because it's so popular, you can even order extra or get it packed to go separately haha. I seriously told my husband it's as good as the jokbal itself. Overall, every side dish is seasoned perfectly. You know how they say if the side dishes are good, the main dish is bound to be good too, right? ^ㅠ^

They also serve warm dried radish green soup and lettuce wraps. If it had been Saturday night, this would've been perfect with a drink!

How the original jokbal tastes, and how much you get

☆ And now, the star of the show — the jokbal ☆ As you can see, it's incredibly tender. The portion is huge too — it barely seems to shrink no matter how much you eat ♡ I love meat on the bone (maybe because I'm born in the year of the dog haha), and the meat around the bone under the tender top layer wasn't tough at all — it was soft and easy to pick off. It hit the spot for my husband's taste too.

Being impatient, I grabbed the softest-looking piece of meat first, dipped it in sauce, and it just melted... You can tell just from the shine on it, right? With so many side dishes, you'd think there'd be the usual greasiness that comes from eating a lot of jokbal, but it was just delicious from start to finish, all the way until my stomach was full.

The steamed egg served midway through the meal

About three or four pieces in, they bring out the steamed egg, which is incredibly fluffy and puffed up high. We scraped the bowl clean by the end too haha. Turns out steamed egg pairs well not just with Korean BBQ but with jokbal too! Everything on this menu is wangchang (all out).

A full table with no room left to spare

Once everything was set out and I snapped a photo, there was so much that there was no more room to put anything else on the table haha. My stomach feels grand just looking at it!! There's a reason this place has so many neighborhood regulars.

My husband and I happily wrapped bites with radish pickles and lettuce and fed each other, and since the tables are spaced far apart, it's a great atmosphere for talking too! Highly recommend for family or couples visits.
