Bucheon Korean restaurant for green-tea barley corvina: Kim Myeongju

In short

Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang, Jungdong Branch is a Korean restaurant in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, serving set meals with pot rice, side dishes, and cheonggukjang. I paired semi-dried barley corvina with green tea water and white rice, then filled up on self-serve side dishes and scorched rice. Verdict: a comfortable choice for a family meal with parents or a group gathering.

Semi-dried barley corvina with a pleasantly chewy texture and no fishiness, so it goes down so cleanly.

Chewy barley corvina Korean set-meal spread

The light yet deeply savory cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) comes with it too, which makes this Jungdong Korean set-meal restaurant even better.

You can enjoy a delicious meal privately in a room as well, making it a lovely space for gatherings in Sinjung-dong.

Spacious table seating

The tables are generously sized, so everything feels nice and roomy.

Extra side dishes from the self-serve bar

The cauldron is full of barley rice and hwangmi rice, with plenty of warm barley rice. There are also fried lotus root, fried eggplant, japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), seasoned greens, and well-fermented seokbakji radish kimchi.

Self-serve bar with fried lotus root and side dishes

One newly added side dish is fried lotus root. It does not come among the basic side dishes, so pick up as much as you want from the self-serve bar.

The fresh napa cabbage kimchi has such a good seasoning balance; it is a perfect match with scorched rice.

The braised potatoes and dried radish greens stew are also the kind of tasty dishes you keep reaching for.

Plum tea and omija (five-flavor berry) tea are sweetly satisfying after the meal too.

Tteuranchae Bapsang and à la carte dishes

Tteuranchae Bapsang à la carte menu information

Tteuranchae Bapsang must be ordered one per person, and for every four people you also need to order one à la carte dish~ There are barley corvina, soy-marinated raw crab, charcoal-grilled pork, stir-fried webfoot octopus, seasoned cockles, and grilled mackerel. They are all delicious, so try choosing a different one each time.

What I ordered

Tteuranchae Bapsang: ₩13,000 per person × 2; barley corvina: ₩18,000.

Barley corvina and cheonggukjang meal spread

Everything was set out super quickly~ Along with the appetizing side dishes came steaming cheonggukjang. And then today’s star, the barley corvina, made its entrance.

Green tea water and barley corvina

Chewy barley corvina with green tea water

The barley corvina comes with green tea water too. Because it is semi-dried, it has that lovely chewy texture, yet it is not salty or fishy at all, so I picked it clean! A bite of barley corvina with white rice in green tea water is a real treat.

The cheonggukjang is even better because it is not too salty.

Mild cheonggukjang

The mild, nutty cheonggukjang went down so easily even when I mixed rice into it.

Braised shishito peppers with anchovies and seasoned bellflower root

The braised shishito peppers and anchovies have a slight kick, which makes them even better. I always refill the crisp seasoned bellflower root. And the newly added fried lotus root~ It was so crunchy that I went back for it twice.

Freshly milled hwangmi pot rice

Freshly milled hwangmi pot rice and scorched rice

And the pot rice is hwangmi rice with the rice germ intact, freshly milled right there!! It is packed with nutrition and has such a wonderfully nutty aroma!! Freshly cooked hwangmi rice arrives in a hot pot. The best thing about pot rice is pouring in hot water to make scorched rice, then topping it with kimchi.

Side dishes for sale and a place to take a break

They also sell various rice-made snacks.

Dessert coffee is on the second floor, and there is also a resting space on the first floor.

First-floor café space for taking a break
Rest area with fresh-brewed coffee

There is a little café space to take a break on the first floor~ Fresh-brewed coffee is ₩1,000. This is a delicious, healthy, and easy-on-the-stomach Korean set-meal spot in Sinjung-dong, with private rooms and a spacious hall that make it great for visiting with parents. Have a delicious, healthy meal at Kim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang, Jungdong Branch for your next family outing.
