Korean soup restaurant in Bucheon with unlimited rice: Gukbabi-ga

While looking for a filling, great-value meal in Jung-dong, Bucheon, I came across Gukbabi-ga Bucheon Main Branch (국밥이가 부천본점).

The prices alone were easy on the wallet, and once I tried them, the portions and overall spread made it clear why this place is known for good value.

Pork gukbap that was easy to enjoy

The pork gukbap I ordered first was appealing for staying true to the basics while tasting clean. The broth is, of course, the most important part of gukbap, and it had a rich flavor without feeling heavy.

One of the most impressive things at Gukbabi-ga Bucheon Main Branch was the self-service bar. Most gukbap restaurants provide only basic side dishes, but the self-service bar here was really well stocked.

I was especially pleased that bowls of rice and chal sundae (chewy Korean blood sausage) were unlimited. With prices like these these days, the gukbap itself was reasonably priced, and being able to add as much rice and chal sundae as I wanted made it feel like truly great value.

One bowl of gukbap was filling enough on its own, but adding more warm rice and chewy chal sundae made for a completely satisfying, full meal. I think people with big appetites would be happy here, and it felt like a great place for a day when you want to eat generously.

True to its name, chal sundae's charm was its chewy texture. It felt generously filled with every bite, and the glutinous rice added its characteristic stickiness, making it soft yet pleasantly chewy. It was neither mushy nor dry, with just the right springiness that kept me reaching for more.

It was prepared warm, which made it even more delicious, and it tasted mild and savory even on its own. It was also a really good match with the gukbap. A spoonful of hot broth with chewy chal sundae felt like the two filled in what the other lacked. In particular, it did not have an overly strong gamy odor typical of sundae, and its clean flavor made it easy to eat. I think it would suit not only sundae lovers but also people who do not normally eat much sundae.

Above all, being able to enjoy unlimited chal sundae for the price of a bowl of gukbap was a huge advantage. These days, even adding a plate of sundae can feel expensive, so being able to take as much as I wanted from the self-service bar made the meal even more satisfying.

With rice, chal sundae, and warm gukbap all together, the meal became truly abundant. For anyone who values great value, this self-service-bar selection at Gukbabi-ga Bucheon Main Branch will surely be a major draw.
