Group-table Korean restaurant with self-serve ssam bar in Jungmun
In short
Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap is a Korean restaurant on Iljuseo-ro in Seogwipo's Jungmun area, Jeju, with a main building, an annex, and a large parking lot. The writer ordered the two-person set of the signature aged-kimchi braised mackerel with abalone hot stone rice, which came out in 10 minutes, and helped herself to unlimited ssam vegetables and side dishes at the self-serve bar. Recommended for family or group meals while touring Jeju by rental car.

This time I want to introduce Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap, a place I'd recommend even for breakfast on a Jeju food trip.
Location-wise, it's easy to get to by car — and from what I've felt of Jeju, it's really a destination where you need a car to get to the places you actually want to see!
So since a lot of people rent a car for their Jeju trip, here's a restaurant worth using during your stay if you have wheels: Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap.
A dol hareubang greeting you at the entrance, and a huge parking lot
Right from the entrance a cute dol hareubang (Jeju's stone grandfather statue) greets you, and the path from the entrance into the restaurant was lined with flowers — though they weren't in bloom when I visited... it must be even prettier when they're flowering.

With such a big parking lot, Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap is great for families. The place is split into a main building and an annex, and the parking lot and garden are both well maintained — when we went, a lot of families were there, and many people were just wandering around looking at the place.

Inside, one side had a full glass wall looking out onto the garden, and every table had a tablet, so you could order right away.

The set menu lineup and the signature aged-kimchi braised mackerel
The menu was mostly built around sets, and having it laid out that way made it super clear what you're supposed to order here! It's the aged-kimchi braised mackerel.
This dish is only sold in a set daily quantity, and it's the restaurant's signature menu. So the moment we saw the menu, we ordered the aged-kimchi braised mackerel with abalone hot stone rice, 2-person set.

If you're coming as a family, grilled mackerel with abalone rice or seaweed soup with abalone rice also looked like good options, and you can add à la carte items too.

There's even a handmade black pork cutlet, so the whole menu is set up to work for all ages.

7 basic side dishes, and the whole spread out in 10 minutes
As soon as you order, the basic side dishes come out right away — 7 kinds — and if you want more, you can just help yourself at the self-serve bar.

About 10 minutes later, our food arrived — aged-kimchi braised mackerel and abalone hot stone rice. For the stone pot rice, they scoop the rice out and pour in water right away to make sungnyung (scorched-rice tea)!

The mackerel wrapped in aged kimchi was so well seasoned it was dangerous for your rice intake! Honestly, if you can't taste much seasoning on the mackerel itself, this braise can end up bland — so I was a little worried going in — but the moment I took a bite, I immediately thought, wow, this is seasoned well!

The abalone hot stone rice was also packed with abalone, so eating it alongside the braised mackerel made for a meal I just kept slurping down.

Ssam vegetables and extra sides at the self-serve bar
You can get extra sides and ssam vegetables from the self-serve bar.

You could grab as much fresh ssam vegetables and side dishes as you wanted, so I loved being able to load up mostly on the sides I personally like!

Celebrity autographs and group-table reservations
On the way to the restroom, there were autographs left by various celebrities who'd visited, which was fun to look at. Enough celebrities have come through that it's genuinely a place I'd recommend as a Jeju food spot.

Aside from the side where we ate, the other side was being set up as a reserved group table area — since the restaurant is so spacious, it seemed like a great spot to book for a group meal. And because orders for reserved tables are placed ahead of time, they had everything freshly heated and ready to eat as soon as the group arrived.

Pay with a rice paddle, a baby chair, and coffee on the way out
When you're done eating and ready to pay, you just take this wooden rice paddle up, and they can immediately check your table number and take payment.

A baby chair spotted on the way out — you could really feel the owner's thoughtfulness there haha.

And after paying, on your way out there's a corner selling food and alcohol! They had a surprisingly wide selection, so it seemed like a good spot to pick up something as a gift too.

And on the way out, there was coffee set up so you could grab a cup — I had an Americano, and my husband made himself a mix coffee, and we each brewed one to take with us.

A place I'd recommend even for breakfast on your Jeju food trip — Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap. I hope you get to enjoy a delicious, healthy meal there with family or your travel companions and have a great time!
