Handmade burgers in Mapo, Seoul: Quokka Bite’s double cheese and shrimp

I was craving burgers for dinner, so my partner and I went to Quokka Bite (쿼카바이트). I had bookmarked it while working near Daeheung, and this time we ordered a double cheeseburger and a whole-shrimp burger to share.

Where is Quokka Bite, and is parking available?

The restaurant is on the first floor at 11 Baekbeom-ro 24-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul. It sits between Daeheung and Gongdeok, right beside the Gongdeok Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, which made it a nice location for a walk before or after eating.

At the time of the original post, it was open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 to 21:00. The break was from 15:00 to 17:00, last orders were at 20:30, and it was listed as closed regularly on Sundays. There was room for about one car beside the restaurant; if it was full, I would need to use a nearby public parking lot.

What are the indoor and outdoor seats like?

It was a compact restaurant with five indoor tables. There were also two outdoor tables, so I thought eating outside would be nice in good weather. The restaurant was tidy, and the owner was kind.

What are the burger menu, prices, and ordering method?

We ordered at the kiosk. There were options ranging from beef and chicken to shrimp, so it took me a little while to choose.

The individual burger prices listed in the original post were ₩9,900–₩13,900. For an additional ₩4,000, I could order a set with fries and cola.

We added romaine lettuce and tomato to the Quokka Double Cheeseburger. We ordered the Whole-Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger as a set and changed the fries to an L size. We also added a milkshake.

I could watch the handmade patties and buns being grilled over an open flame as soon as we ordered.

How did the double cheeseburger and whole-shrimp burger differ?

The Quokka Double Cheeseburger had two beef patties, cheese, bacon, and caramelized onions. The meat was tender but still had a satisfying bite, and it tasted clean rather than greasy to me. The melted cheese, vegetables, and sauce worked well together.

The Whole-Shrimp Quokka Shrimp Burger had both chopped shrimp meat and whole shrimp inside its fritter. Sharing one beef burger and one shrimp burger let us enjoy different textures, so I thought we had chosen well.

What stood out most was the brioche bun. It was toasted golden, slightly crisp outside and moist inside. My partner also said the bread was good.

Were the fries and milkshake worth having too?

The fries were crisp and not overly salty, which suited my taste. I also liked dipping them in the milkshake we ordered. Sharing a carbonated drink and a milkshake between the two of us was satisfying.

I was happy with the taste of both burgers, and not only the patties but also the buns stayed with me. It was somewhere I wanted to return to after work.
