I was walking through a Yeonnam-dong alley when a cute character sign completely stole my heart and pulled me right in!

I visited Katsu Monster Yeonnam (๑˙ꄃ˙๑)♡⃛ I genuinely love Japanese-style pork cutlet and chase down every spot that gets talked about, and this time I found a proper new hangout.

Inside Katsu Monster: a small room that suits solo diners

The moment I stepped through the door of Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch, a cozy, cute little space appeared and it instantly lifted my mood! The whole place was kept really clean and tidy. Thanks to the snug, charming interior, it felt totally comfortable to eat solo (•̀ᴗ•́)♡⃛

They said they hand-trim premium domestic loin and tenderloin meat by hand, carefully selected fresh every day, before it reaches the table. No wonder the texture felt on a whole other level the second it hit my mouth.

What the 22,000 won kiosk solo set includes

You order Katsu Monster Yeonnam Main Branch's menu through a kiosk! What I ordered and tried was the generous, satisfying solo set — the composition is so solid I'd strongly recommend it. It's ₩22,000 basic, though about ₩2,000 extra can be added depending on which cut of meat you choose.

I picked the special limited cut, sangloin katsu! It's loin mixed with just the right amount of gabrisal, so it's stunning even just to look at. The coating is crisp and the inside is juicy.

The moment I took a bite, savory juices burst all through my mouth. Add in the softness of the gabrisal, and the melt-in-your-mouth texture was just art.

The katsuobushi fish cake udon that comes with the Katsu Monster solo set is a real standout dish too.

One sip of the deeply steeped katsuobushi broth and my stomach felt instantly settled. It's generously loaded with springy fish cake too, and the pairing with the pork cutlet was just excellent (๑>ᴗ<๑)♡⃛

How to eat the sangloin katsu: salt, wasabi and house sauce

With just a light dip in salt, the sangloin katsu tastes clean and lets the meat's own flavor shine; topped with wasabi and dipped in the house sauce, it's equally rich and varied.

The frying oil was well drained out too, so my stomach stayed clean and never felt heavy right to the last bite, which made it even more satisfying.

The clean-tasting kimchi that comes as a basic side dish cuts through the richness of the pork cutlet nicely too. The rice and salad were generous with no skimping either, making it a truly perfect meal!

Lighting, photos and service at Katsu Monster

The lighting inside is bright yet soft, so photos come out really pretty. With food this good-looking, it's a perfect spot to leave some Instagram-worthy shots.

The staff were friendly too, so I stayed comfortable the whole meal through. You could tell they cared about every little detail, which was genuinely touching!
