Hapjeong sukiyaki restaurant with a konjac noodle add-on: Nahonsha
In short
Nahonsha is a solo shabu-shabu and sukiyaki restaurant a short walk from Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. At a bar-style single seat with its own induction stove, the Hon Special Sukiyaki costs 19,900 won, with vegetables at 3,500 won and konjac noodles at 2,000 won added before a finish of noodles and rice. The broth at Nahonsha runs sweet, so a spoon of minced chili paste helps, and single-serving tokkuri sake makes it easy to turn a solo meal into a solo drink.

I was looking for a shabu-shabu place around Hapjeong and ended up visiting the Hapjeong branch of Nahonsha, haha. Shabu-shabu and sukiyaki always felt like food you eat with a group, but Nahonsha is built for solo dining, so it wasn't awkward at all going alone — most people there were eating solo too.
It's also within walking distance of Hapjeong Station, so it's pretty accessible!

How much is the lunch special at Nahonsha Hapjeong? 11,000 won
The Hapjeong branch of Nahonsha has a lunch special for 11,000 won. Being walkable from Hapjeong Station makes it easy to get to.
The 11,000 won lunch special is such a good deal ~! Perfect for Hapjeong office workers' lunch, haha.

Make sure to check the break time

Solo seats at Nahonsha with a personal induction stove at each place
Nahonsha Hapjeong has bar-style solo seating so you can eat comfortably without worrying about anyone around you. There are group tables too, haha.
Each seat has its own induction stove, which is perfect for eating shabu-shabu or sukiyaki alone!!!

The place is fairly clean, and you can see a nice green view through the windows, so the atmosphere was better than I expected!

Ordering the Hon Special Sukiyaki at Nahonsha for 19,900 won
At Nahonsha you order via tablet, and this time I ordered the Hon Special Sukiyaki for 19,900 won. Being a solo shabu-shabu specialist, they have quite a variety of broths.
There's clear broth, spicy broth, miso, mala, and tomato shabu-shabu, plus a separate sukiyaki menu. After some deliberation I ordered the Hon Special Sukiyaki, priced at 19,900 won. Compared to the basic Hon Sukiyaki, it comes with special extra ingredients plus meat and rice included, so I recommend it! The portion isn't huge!!! Just the right amount.

The sauces are right next to you, so you just scoop them yourself, haha.

Nahonsha's sukiyaki broth runs sweet: add minced chili paste
The Hon Special Sukiyaki comes with a bit more ingredients than the regular Hon Sukiyaki, so I chose the special because I wanted a proper full meal even eating alone~~! The pot was full of vegetables, mushrooms and various ingredients, plus meat, so it never felt lacking for a solo meal! Just right, haha. The sweet-savory flavor typical of sukiyaki soaked well into the ingredients and went great with rice.
At first I set it to boil at level 5, then lowered it to 2 or 3 while eating. Being able to eat it warm was so nice!! You pour the broth to your taste, but it's quite sweet!!! You can add chili paste, so keep that in mind, haha.

The meat cooked up tender, and the vegetables and mushrooms simmered well in the broth too, so each had a different texture, which I liked. As you eat sukiyaki, the broth gradually reduces and the flavor gets more concentrated in the ingredients — personally, that part was delicious, haha. Dipping the meat in egg added a smooth, nutty flavor that paired really well with the sukiyaki~~!!! If you feel like you're running low on meat, you can order more, so meat lovers might want to add extra from the start.
Solo drinking at Nahonsha with a single-serving tokkuri of sake
A great spot for solo drinking as well as solo dining
Something I liked more than I expected at Nahonsha was the variety of drinks. Along with soju and beer, they have a nice range of sake too, so it seemed like a good place to have a drink alongside sukiyaki. In particular, since they have a single-serving tokkuri, I thought it was a great option for anyone visiting alone who wants a light drink.
Usually there are places where the menu or atmosphere makes it awkward to drink alone, but Nahonsha already has a natural solo-dining vibe, so it felt easy to move on to solo drinking too. A warm sukiyaki with a glass of sake would pair really well, haha. The best side dish! Being a good spot for both solo eating and solo drinking felt like a real plus!!

Finishing with vegetables (3,500 won) and konjac noodles (2,000 won)
At Nahonsha I added vegetables for 3,500 won and konjac noodles for 2,000 won. I finished it off with noodles and rice at the end.
I added vegetables and konjac noodles — vegetables 3,500 won, konjac noodles 2,000 won! Konjac noodles are also low in calories, haha, great for anyone dieting!!

Finished it off with noodles, haha. Once you add the noodles and boil, the broth reduces further and the flavor deepens, and adding rice too was, as expected ~~ delicious. Personally, spicy broth is more my taste 💚💚
Why Nahonsha works for solo dining near Hapjeong Station
At Nahonsha, you cook the ingredients yourself in your own pot, which made it nice for eating slowly on your own!! Most people there come alone, haha. Just make sure to check the break time before visiting!
For anyone looking for a place to eat alone in Hapjeong, or wanting to have shabu-shabu or sukiyaki solo, I think this is a really, really good spot. Even those looking for solo dining around Hongdae might want to make the short trip over to Hapjeong 💛 Nahonsha is healing to eat at ~ recommended. Next time I'll have to go back for the shabu-shabu, haha.
