I hadn't been to the Hongdae area in a while, and my friend and I were craving some good Western food, so I went looking for a good spot near Hapjeong Station!

We wanted proper handmade wood-fired pizza and pasta, so I looked for a place that does both well — and found this Sangsu Station favorite, "Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza" 🍕 They also serve a variety of pasta and salads, so it's a solid pick for a date or a first meeting near Hongdae Station.

What is the interior of Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza like?
The inside of Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza felt clean, cozy, and warm. I visited on a weekend after hanging out around Hongdae, and since it's right between Sangsu-dong and Hapjeong-dong, it was easy to get to!

It's been running since 2012, so I thought it might feel a bit dated, but stepping inside I found it clean, cozy, and warm — I really liked it 👍
A Hapjeong Station date spot quiet enough to talk

The interior is decorated with wood-tone tables and chairs, plus little fairy lights, giving it a warm, cozy hideout feel ✨ It's a pizzeria with a great atmosphere for conversation, so it was nice catching up slowly with my friend over a meal after a long time-!
Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza menu and what we ordered
The menu at Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza had a really wide variety of wood-fired pizzas (Neapolitan-style and more), and the pasta lineup included cream, oil, and tomato-based sauces! If you want to try several flavors at once, ordering half-and-half is a great option.

- 🍕 Margherita - ₩23,000
- 🍝 Gamberi Crema - ₩18,500
- 🍋 Lemon Ade - ₩7,000
- 🍊 Orange Ade - ₩7,000
Here's what we ordered that day '-'
Fresh lemon and orange ade, 7,000 won each

We ordered one lemon ade and one orange ade (₩7,000 each). They make the ade by blending fresh fruit directly, and drinking it, the amount of actual fruit pulp was noticeably different from usual
The taste was clearly different from a typical syrup-based ade! (Sweet and tangy — definitely recommend ordering one)
How does the wood-fired handmade margherita taste?
The margherita (₩23,000) came straight out of the wood oven with the cheese still warm and melted. The tanginess of the Naples-style tomato sauce and the savory mozzarella came together cleanly.

Fresh out of the wood oven, the warm melted cheese visual alone was already insane..

Taking a bite, the tangy Naples tomato sauce and the savory, clean mozzarella flavor blended together really cleanly haha
The owner apparently kneads the dough himself and lets it ferment for a whopping 72 hours — maybe that's why the outside was slightly crispy while the inside felt fluffy and chewy?

Even the very edge wasn't tough at all, just chewy, so I kept reaching for the crust the whole time lol
Gamberi crema: shrimp cream penne for 18,500 won
The gamberi crema (₩18,500) is a shrimp cream penne loaded with shrimp. The cream sauce wasn't overly heavy, blending smoothly, which made it easy to eat alongside the pizza.

True to its name, it was loaded with shrimp, so the visual alone got a big thumbs up..
The cream sauce also felt more smooth and well-blended than overly thick, ha

The penne's chewier texture compared to regular pasta noodles was seriously insane.. a dish where you could taste the shrimp's flavor throughout along with the smooth cream sauce!
Is Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza near Hapjeong Station worth it?
- ✔ A handmade pizzeria fresh out of the wood oven
- ✔ A fresh fruit ade specialist with real fruit pulp
- ✔ A Sangsu Station Western restaurant good for a Hapjeong date
- ✔ A recommended lunch spot near Sangsu and Hapjeong stations
I especially liked the chewy texture of the freshly wood-fired margherita dough, and the gamberi crema was loaded with shrimp too, making it a good side to pair with the pizza!

The owner was really kind too, and with the great atmosphere, this is a Western restaurant worth revisiting! If you're looking for a date or first-meeting spot near Hapjeong, I recommend visiting "Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza" ^^
