Shade tent and wood table combo at Mangwon Han River: Picnic List

In short

Picnic List Mangwon is a picnic gear rental shop right in front of the entrance to Mangwon Han River Park in Mapo, Seoul. Arriving for the 11am Saturday opening, the writer chose the 3-Item Combo Set (shade tent, wood table, backrest chair) at Picnic List Mangwon and added an embossed mat, an L-size picnic mat, a parasol and a picnic basket, then spent the afternoon by the Han River with two bottles of wine and delivery food. The verdict: if you only rent one table take the wood table over the box table, and never skip the embossed mat for the ground.

Main photo of the Mangwon Han River Park picnic

Today's post is about a recent picnic I enjoyed at Mangwon Han River Park, plus a review of the mat/gear rental spot I used. The weather lately has been almost unbelievably good — warm during the day, perfectly cool in the evening — so it's no surprise that Mangwon Han River Park has been packed with picnickers, weekday or weekend! I often go running there and end up people-watching, so this time I finally decided to try it myself, heading out early on a weekend to enjoy a Han River picnic.

Where is Picnic List Mangwon, and what are its hours?

The place I rented my mat and gear from is Picnic List Mangwon, located right before the entrance to Mangwon Han River Park — making it the closest rental spot to the park. Hours are 11:00 - 22:00.

I figured weekends would get crowded, so I showed up right at the 11am opening. But on the Saturday I went, it actually stayed pretty calm until 3pm, then got busier and busier, peaking around 5-6pm.

Picnic List has a wide range of gear, but it's also a great deal even if you're only renting a few items.

Before you even go inside, you can check out what's available from the banners out front,

and here's what the inside of the shop looks like. Once I told the friendly staff what I needed for my reservation, they got everything ready super fast.

True to the camping-picnic vibe, they even have aesthetic picnic baskets.

Picnic List's three rental sets: which one should you pick?

The Picnic List Mangwon menu works by first choosing one of three sets, then adding whatever else you need from the rental list. A lot of people get confused by the menu board, so here's a quick breakdown:

Menu board showing the Basic Set, 3-Item Combo Set, and 4-Item Set
  • Basic Set (BASIC SET) *no wagon included*
  • 3-Item Combo Set (COMBO SET 3 ITEM) *wagon included*
  • Mix & Match 4-Item Set (MIX&MATCH 4 ITEM) *no wagon included*

First, pick whichever of the three sets fits what you need. E.g. "I just want to lay down a mat, no tent" → Basic Set / "I need a tent or shade plus a table and chair" → 3-Item Combo Set / "I need both a mat and a tent" → Mix & Match 4-Item Set.

Once you've picked your set, if you think "hmm, I need a bit more," just check the rental list next to it and add whatever else you want.

Rental kiosk at Picnic List Mangwon

There's a kiosk, but if you're not sure how it works, it's probably faster to just ask the staff.

What we rented at Picnic List Mangwon: 3-Item Combo Set plus 7 extras

So, since we'd already reserved ahead, we went with the 3-Item Combo Set: shade, wood table, and backrest chair. On top of that we added an embossed mat, an L-size picnic mat, disposable wine glasses (2P), a box table, a parasol, a picnic basket, and a wood cutting board.

If you want to rent quickly and head out, just write down what you need in your notes app beforehand and show it to staff. It's much faster than listing items one by one — they just read the note and grab everything right away.

Why the embossed mat is essential and the parasol is a backup

Here's a photo after we got into Mangwon Han River Park and set up our spot. We rented a really solid combo. You absolutely need an embossed mat underneath everything else — it makes the ground so much softer and more comfortable. The difference with and without one is huge!

Parasol used at a previous picnic

We got a shaded spot this time so we didn't end up using the parasol, but here's a photo from a previous picnic when we did. The parasol is genuinely great — if you show up late and all that's left is a sunny spot, having a parasol lets you make your own shade wherever you want and settle in comfortably.

Box table vs wood table: which to rent if you take only one

There are two tables in this photo — the box table on the left, the wood table on the right. Last time I only rented the box table and found the space way too cramped, so this time I added the wood table too. If you're only going to rent one table, I'd recommend the wood table.

Open, airy shade set up over the picnic spot

And the shade — so much more open and comfortable than a tent! I ended up dozing off under it while drinking wine that day.

Picnic basket and backrest chair set up together

We even rented a nice picnic basket. Here's the setup before the food arrived. Also, this was my first time renting the backrest chair, and it's way more comfortable than I expected — you can genuinely just lean back and relax.

and the delivery food arrived! We also grabbed some drinks from the convenience store. The wood table was plenty spacious, so next time I think I'll just rent that one table.

We got a great spot that day — even as the sun shifted from noon into afternoon, we stayed in the shade the whole time and didn't have to worry about it at all.

Then we set up the sparkling wine I'd brought along.

With two bottles of wine and extra food ordered, we had a really full Mangwon Han River picnic that day. Even with all the extra rentals, the prices are quite reasonable and affordable compared to other places, so if you want to squeeze in a Mangwon picnic before it gets cold, I'd definitely recommend checking out Picnic List Mangwon!
