Jamsil monkfish stew restaurant, free shrimp fritter for two: Ttoksuni

In short

Ttoksuni Agujjim Jamsil Direct Branch is a monkfish stew (agujjim) restaurant with 50 years of tradition on Wirye-seongdae-ro in Bangi-dong, Songpa, Seoul, a short walk from Hanseong Baekje Station. The agujjim for two, ordered at regular spice level, came loaded with plump monkfish, crunchy bean sprouts and minari and went through three bowls of rice, and a free shrimp fritter arrived after a Naver review. With two hours of free parking in the building and a self-bar of side dishes, Ttoksuni Agujjim is a solid pick for anyone who loves monkfish stew.

The menu and what to know before you order

The Ttoksuni Agujjim menu has set menus, along with agujjim, seafood agujjim, and roe-fritter agujjim. There's also a lunch special, which is nice because it's much cheaper. They have a kids' menu too, so it seems like a good spot to bring little ones!

They've also received tons of Blue Ribbon awards. Just a note — octopus, abalone, and roe can only be added when you first order the stew, and fried rice needs to be ordered after the stew arrives! You can also get a shrimp fritter for writing a Naver review.

Table spread of banchan including cucumber kimchi and water kimchi

Side dishes and the self-bar: two bowls of japchae

The side dishes (banchan) were really well done! We got cucumber kimchi, salad, water kimchi, seasoned seaweed, pickled gochujang chilies, and seaweed soup. All the sides had that mild, savory seasoning that's really good, haha.

Self-bar with fried gim-bugak, green onion kimchi, and japchae

There's even more banchan at the self-bar, haha. They have fried gim-bugak (crispy seaweed chips), green onion kimchi, and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), all delicious. I ate two whole bowls of japchae!!

How does the monkfish stew for two taste at regular spice?

We ordered the Ttoksuni Agujjim for two. The portion was massive, coming out with bean sprouts, monkfish, and minari (water dropwort) all together.

Agujjim topped with bean sprouts and minari

The meat was so plump and not dry at all — really tender!! So next time I'm planning to order the extra-meat version, haha. The sauce soaked in nicely and it was delicious, and it took about 10 minutes to come out.

Plump monkfish meat and sauce

The bean sprouts were so crunchy and delicious! Wrapping the minari, bean sprouts, and monkfish meat together was seriously insane ㅠ We went with regular spice level and it had that nicely spicy kick — loved it.

The free shrimp fritter for writing a Naver review

The shrimp fritter we got for writing a review. Piping hot and the shrimp inside was plump and tasty. They give you tartar sauce to dip it in, and it was amazing >_<

Shrimp fritter and tartar sauce received as a review event gift

We ate three whole bowls of rice between the two of us. We were going to order fried rice but the bean sprouts were so good we just piled a huge heap of rice on top and wrapped it up instead, haha.
