Jeonju Hanok Village opening run: two soy crab sets at Hanjamae

In short

Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang Jeonju Hanok Village Main Branch is a soy-marinated crab restaurant on Gyeonggijeon-gil in Jeonju, serving full Korean set meals. Arriving right at opening, the writer ordered one soy mixed seafood set for 28,000 won and one soy crab set for 21,000 won, then worked through crab, abalone, shrimp and salmon with rice topped with a soft-boiled egg. The fish soy sauce was never too salty, and free parking inside the hanok village made Hanjamae an easy stop.

What kind of restaurant is Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang in Jeonju Hanok Village?

Exterior of Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang Jeonju Hanok Village on Gyeonggijeon-gil

I'm recommending <Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang Jeonju Hanok Village Main Branch> as a Korean restaurant in Jeonju Hanok Village. Instead of the usual bibimbap or tteokgalbi (grilled rice cakes) everyone eats in the hanok village, I really wanted proper, genuinely delicious Jeonju food, so I searched hard and found Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang✨ There were so many reviews calling it a soy crab restaurant hotspot that I visited, and the conclusion is: total satisfaction! Parking is usually tough in the hanok village, but Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang actually has parking available~

Spacious seating inside Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang

The inside of Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang was also spacious so I could eat comfortably haha. It seemed like it could easily handle a family gathering trip to Jeonju too! Plus, since everything comes as a full table setting, it's perfect for dates or solo dining ♪(´▽`) I went right when they opened, and there were already people there on dates — by lunch peak time, it filled up fast~

The soy crab set with one whole crab is 21,000 won, and the soy mixed seafood set with crab, shrimp, abalone, and salmon is 28,000 won per person! Every set comes with egg rice, soup, and 3 side dishes, so it seemed like you could eat a filling meal 😉

Soy mixed seafood set and soy crab set served together

I ordered one soy mixed seafood set and one soy crab set together! They came out so neatly arranged as a full table setting that just looking at it made me happy haha. Who knew soy crab could be served this beautifully — Jeonju Hanok Village date spot, confirmed😆

Four soy-marinated items: crab, abalone, shrimp, and salmon

With the soy mixed seafood set you get 4 different soy-marinated items total — soy crab plus soy abalone, soy shrimp, and soy salmon! The generous, abundant lineup was great, so if you visit Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang, definitely order the soy mixed seafood set👍

Soy-marinated crab packed with roe and meat

The soy crab set was great too — the sturdy whole crab was already cut into easy-to-eat pieces haha. They also gave plenty of soy sauce, so mixing it with rice looked like it would be absolutely delicious🤤

I pressed on one side of the crab and the meat and roe were so packed they nearly spilled out..❤️ It wasn't an empty crab but a solidly stuffed one with plenty to eat, which was so satisfying! Piling crab meat onto warm rice topped with a soft-boiled egg and taking a bite was pure heaven ㅠ.ㅠ

How to eat it: rice mixed in soy sauce, wrapped in seaweed

At first, the owner told us it's even more delicious to mix rice with the soy sauce and wrap it in seaweed, so we tried it exactly that way?! And it was honestly so good that my mom and I gave it a standing ovation lol. The crab wasn't salty at all, good enough to eat plain, and apparently it's made with a patented fish soy sauce that carries the flavor of the sea, brewed for a long time using sun-dried salt from Geumso Salt Farm in Jeonbuk! Since it's not salty but has deep umami still alive, it's on a totally different level from those overly salty soy crabs where you just have to shovel down rice👏🏻

There was so much roe stuck to the crab shell too, so I scraped it all out and mixed it with rice haha. You could really taste the rich crab flavor, and combined with the umami-packed soy sauce, it was basically rice thief material😍

Soft-boiled egg and side dishes included by default
Runny egg yolk with the soy-marinated dishes

I especially liked that a soft-boiled egg comes included without needing to add it separately! The runny yolk went so well with the soy sets that it was delicious haha. The side dishes and seaweed soup were all so good that even though I wasn't very hungry, I ended up completely stuffed (≧∇≦)ノ

How were the soy abalone, salmon and shrimp?

I also tried the soy abalone, and the abalone was really big and plump, so the texture was amazing! It had that fully chewy bite, so I really enjoyed the soy abalone too😉

And the soy salmon that my mom was most satisfied with! The salmon was so fresh and clean that she said it was best eaten together with egg, wasabi, and seaweed haha. Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang's soy salmon won over even my picky mom's taste buds ( •̀ ω •́ )✧

The soy shrimp weren't small and puny either — they were big and long, so I could fully enjoy the whole flavor! Soy shrimp is usually mostly saltiness, but Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang's soy shrimp was definitely not salty and had maximized umami instead — hands down the best I've ever had✨

Is Hanjamae worth it for a family meal or date in Jeonju?

<Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang Jeonju Hanok Village Main Branch>, a Jeonju hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) spot great for family gatherings and dates. I found it while searching for Jeonju Hanok Village restaurants, and I was so satisfied I feel like I would've regretted not going! From the soy crab to the abalone, shrimp, and salmon, everything was delicious — I scraped every last bit haha. It's even a soy crab made healthily without chemical soy sauce, preservatives, artificial flavoring, or coloring, so it seems perfect to bring family to eat here😆 If you're looking for a Jeonju Hanok Village restaurant, I sincerely recommend Hanjamae Ganjang Gejang💕
