8pm at Songnim Bok Jangeo: a hall full of work dinner tables
I got there a little before 8pm and the place was packed with group dinner tables, so I sat in the last open seat. Songnim Bok Jangeo Ansan City Hall Direct Store seems to be famous as a group dinner spot, haha. I took these photos on my way out after eating!

The inside was clean and pleasant!! There's more space toward the back too, so it felt really spacious.

Nice touch that you can grab a coffee on your way out, haha.

They even have a guide on how to grill eel deliciously?!
- First, place the raw eel skin-side down to grill first.
- Second, once both sides are well cooked, remove the center back bone, side fins and head fin.
- Third, cut it into bite-size pieces and stand them up to grill the cut sides golden brown for the best flavor.
The all-you-can-eat time limit is 2 hours! We ordered 2 adult all-you-can-eat servings at ₩29,900 each and 2 table setting fees at ₩3,000 each.
Side dishes and the complimentary bokbunja wine

Once you order, they bring out side dishes — pickled onion, ginger, green onion kimchi, baek kimchi (white kimchi), and pickled perilla leaves, haha. All the eel-restaurant essentials in one spread!

They also brought over as much lettuce and perilla leaf as we could eat, haha.

Apparently if you order the all-you-can-eat set, they also give you bokbunja (Korean black raspberry) wine as a complimentary service!!

Eel plus bokbunja wine — an energy-charging combo //
Charcoal grill, self-serve bar and the ginger dipping sauce
The charcoal grill arrives!! Grilling over charcoal is just the best, isn't it?!

You can freely refill both the eel and meat, plus the side dishes, all self-serve!!

They also gave us a dipping sauce, and apparently it has ginger in it?! Totally my style, so I dipped generously, hahaha.
Then the eel and meat show up!!!! Staff bring the first round, and after that you just grab whatever you want from the self-serve bar, haha.
Grilling eel for the first time: how did it taste?
Following the tips for grilling eel deliciously, I placed it skin-side down first!

Since it was my first time grilling eel, I couldn't tell if it was cooked or not, so I asked a staff member, and they kindly explained, hahaha.
After removing the fins and cutting it, stand the pieces up!!!!! Grill the cut sides golden brown.

I was worried the quality might not be great since it's all-you-can-eat, but it was genuinely delicious...... plump and not the slightest bit fishy ㅠㅠ They apparently bring it fresh from the direct market every morning and trim it themselves, and you could really taste that freshness. I honestly wonder how they make any profit selling it like this?.?.??

Pork belly and chicken neck are unlimited too
And before we even finished the eel, they started grilling pork belly for us, haha. Pork belly that's too thick fills you up too fast, but this thickness was just right — crispy outside and tender inside, the best, haha.
Then they put on chicken neck too!

The meat came pre-seasoned so it was perfectly tasty. Chicken neck isn't something you find at a lot of restaurants, so I was happy to get to eat it?!!

Eating only eel can get a bit much, but mixing in the meat actually made it easier to keep eating more, haha.

My stomach settled a bit so I refilled the eel, haha. It was so good I kept going,,,

Again, skin-side down first on the grill. The more I did it, the better I got at grilling, haha — I think I can really grill it well now.
Wrapping up a big chunk of eel in a lettuce leaf!!!!!! Dipping eel in the sauce and eating it with ginger and onion is my absolute favorite way?!!!! It had been a while since I felt this satisfied and full — a good energy boost //
