It's right next to the Bonghwang-dong Bongridan-gil public parking lot, so it was easy to park and walk over.

How big is Sushi Hwa for a Bongridan-gil alley restaurant?

Shops in Gimhae's Bongridan-gil tend to be small given the alley setting, but Sushi Hwa's dining room was wide and comfortable, which I loved.

Walking in, the space was much bigger than I expected, with no cramped feeling at all. The overall interior had a tidy, clean wood-tone look. The tables were also spaced generously apart, which made it comfortable.

The signature feature of the flame-seared sushi is the torched surface, giving it a smoky char. The 27pcs set includes a variety: wagyu, beef short rib, sweet shrimp, red raw shrimp, scallop, squid, fried tofu pouch, and egg, so there's plenty of variety to enjoy.

Sauce choice at Sushi Hwa: garlic, spicy or half-and-half

There are sauce options: sweet garlic, spicy, and a half-and-half option so you can try both. We went with half-and-half so we wouldn't get tired of one flavor. The flame-seared sushi paired really well with the sauces too. Eating the sweet garlic sauce and then switching to the spicy sushi in between kept things interesting the whole way through, haha.

Udon and soba: ordering one of each as the side meal

Along with the main sushi, the Sushi Hwa set includes a side dish where you can choose between udon and soba — we each picked one to suit our own tastes. The meal came out neatly with udon, soba, salad, blueberries, wasabi, pickled radish, and ginger, and the wasabi was served separately so you could add as much as you liked.

With two of us, ordering one udon and one soba meant we got to try both the warm broth and the cool soba. Eating them alongside the main sushi throughout the meal made it even more filling.

Was the 27pcs set enough for a two-person lunch?

After two adults finished off the Sushi Hwa 27pcs sushi set plus both the udon and soba at lunch, we were completely full! The main sushi portion itself was generous, and with the udon and soba added on, there was no lack of food at all.
