Room-seat Chinese restaurant revisit for tangsuyuk, jjamppong

Today I went back to Dongbaek, a well-known Chinese restaurant in Gimhae with room seating!

Is parking easy at Dongbaek in Gimhae?

Dongbaek is a really famous Chinese restaurant in Gimhae! I came once before and it was so good that I went back haha. The building is huge so it's easy to spot! There's an underground parking lot behind the store, so it's convenient if you're driving. There's also another lot to the side, so parking space is generous overall!

The interior and the room seating

Dongbaek is decorated in a wood-and-red tone that really feels like you stepped into China! The whole space is clean and spacious, so it feels really pleasant. There are regular tables where you can sit comfortably, plus separate room seats for a private date, family gathering, or group meal!

There are so many rooms that it seems great for a work dinner too! When I visited, there were a lot of families having meals in the rooms. Next time I want to bring my parents here too!

The self-bar and table setting

This is the self-bar! You can grab extra side dishes, small plates, cups, scissors, tongs, and so on. The self-bar is also kept really clean!

Every table is set with a water cup, small saucers, soy sauce, vinegar, chili powder, tissues, and wet wipes as standard, so it's easy to use right away! Ordering is done through the kiosk pad on each table, where you look at photos and pick directly — much more convenient!

What's on the menu?

As a proper Chinese restaurant, Dongbaek offers a wide range of dishes — tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), kkanpunggi (spicy crispy chicken), jeongabok, chili shrimp, yusanseul, palbochae, gochu japchae, lajogi, yangjangpi — plus meal options like jjajang, jjamppong, shrimp fried rice, japchae rice, and yusanseul rice, so there's something for every taste! They also have good-value lunch sets, quality course menus, and various value combo sets!

After ordering on the kiosk pad, they set the table with the basic side dishes — pickled radish, onion, and black bean paste! The staff were also really friendly, and whenever I had a question or something felt off, they answered carefully so the meal was easy to enjoy.

They also serve warm tea to settle your stomach before the delicious food arrives haha.

How's the fresh sirloin tangsuyuk?

The fresh sirloin tangsuyuk has a batter that isn't too thick, crispy on the outside, with thick chunks of meat packed inside — dip it in the sweet sauce and it's crispy outside, chewy inside — genuinely so good!!

Seafood jjamppong and jjajangmyeon

The seafood jjamppong is packed with seafood and vegetables, so the broth is incredibly refreshing and spicy — I kept scooping up more! The noodles are full of smoky wok flavor too, and pairing them with the tangsuyuk is just delicious.

The jjajangmyeon sauce isn't too sweet — it's a well-balanced sweet-and-salty with Dongbaek's own signature savoriness, so it disappears in no time! If you've got a big appetite, I bet it'd be great to mix the leftover sauce with rice like jjajang-bap afterward.

My verdict after two visits

Last time I had raw meat ganjajang, chili shrimp, and kkanpunggi, which were all delicious, and this time's tangsuyuk, seafood jjamppong, and jjajangmyeon were great too! Pretty much every dish here is good, so I want to come back and try something else next time. It's a Chinese restaurant where it's fun to pick through a wide range of dishes. If you're looking for a place in Gimhae with tasty Chinese course meals or room seating, I really recommend giving Dongbaek a try!
