Stone jjambbong in Dong-gu, Ulsan: Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong
In short
Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong is a Chinese restaurant in Dong-gu, Ulsan, serving jjambbong and jjajang on hot stone plates. We ordered stone jjambbong, the 2-person handmade pork-and-chicken tangsuyuk, and yuni jjajang, finishing the noodles, bean sprouts, green onion kimchi, and scorched rice. Verdict: a place I’d happily revisit for a different kind of jjambbong and jjajang.

The day I was craving stone jjambbong in Dong-gu, Ulsan
You know those days when Chinese food is all you want? This was exactly one of those days. After looking at a bunch of places, I fell for the visuals and came to Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong, a Dong-gu favorite. After my first visit, one bite was enough to make me think I had to come back ^^.. Why? I was sooo, sooo, sooo curious about the other dishes too.

1F, 6 Ilsanjin 5-gil, Dong-gu, Ulsan. Hours are 11:00–21:00, with a break from 15:30–17:00, and it is closed every Tuesday. Parking, group visits, reservations, and high chairs are all available.

Behind Ilsan Beach, with plenty of parking
Oh my, Batti’s finger. It is right behind Matchandeul at Ilsan Beach, so it is super easy to find. There is a large parking lot in front of Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong, saving you from parking hell, so you can visit without worrying.

Luckily, there was no wait when we went, but they even have chairs ready for people waiting when it gets busy. Catch Table reservations are not available; on-site reservations only!

A spacious dining room for families and groups
The interior was more spacious than I expected. Above all, there is plenty of room between tables, making it great for families and groups. It felt very clean rather than like a typical Chinese restaurant. Maybe because it is near Ilsan Beach and Daewangam, there were people of all ages.

They have high chairs, children’s tableware, and even a microwave just for baby food. For families with little ones, there is apparently nowhere better for eating out ..

Tablet ordering and choosing your jjambbong spice level
Every table has a tablet, so you can order and pay at the same time! There are individual dishes, but there are set menus too, so we got the stone jjambbong plus handmade pork-and-chicken tangsuyuk for 2, along with yuni jjajang (minced-meat black bean noodles), hehe. There are side dishes and a kids’ menu too, so it is really nice for visiting with children.
- Stone jjambbong spice level 1: standard flavor (about Shin Ramyun level)
- Stone jjambbong spice level 2: mildly spicy
- Stone jjambbong spice level 3: spicy
It seems the standard version is a little spicy on its own too ㅇㅅㅇ.

Onions and danmuji (pickled yellow radish) come as the basic side dishes.

At the self-serve corner, there is unlimited rice, danmuji, onions, and even pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi)!!! Whoever came up with pa-kimchi really knew what they were doing .. I love it so much.

I could not hold back and piled up a huge plate. I am an onion person ㅇㅅㅇ lol.

They are currently running a Naver review event, so keep that in mind and get yourself an ade.

How to enjoy stone jjambbong 100%
Ulsan Daewangam Dol Jjamppong starts cooking as soon as you order, but it does not take that long! By the time you are picking at the onions, it comes out haha.
- Mix the bean sprouts and noodles.
- Cut them into bite-size pieces with scissors.
- Divide it onto plates to eat.
- Eat the scorched rice from the bottom of the stone plate.

Yuni jjajang and pa-kimchi, together
Yuni jjajang. It is on the kids’ menu, but the portion was surprisingly generous? If you want to try both jjajang and jjambbong like we did, order it this way, hehe.

The noodles were chewy, and I loved that the vegetables were finely chopped. More than anything, one bite with pa-kimchi was art.

Stone jjambbong loaded with bean sprouts and seafood
Wow, the visuals .. It arrived bubbling on a hot stone plate. A huge heap of bean sprouts on top, the best. The smoky wok flavor was absolutely on point. Can you see how packed it is with noodles and seafood? The portion is reaaally huge, enough for 2–3 people to share.

Cut it into easy-to-eat pieces with scissors. The chewy noodles with crisp bean sprouts were a texture dream. After that first bite, I could only think about how good the stone jjajang must be too ㅜㅜㅜ.

Since it comes boiling in a stone pot, you can eat it warm for a long time. I thought it might be dry because there did not seem to be broth (?) but nope. There was a little broth, so it stayed moist and the sauce soaked beautifully into the noodles. That is what I mean when I say this jjambbong is the real deal.

The pork-and-chicken tangsuyuk was the real kicker
The donchi tang came out a little later. I wondered what it was, but it was like pork cutlet tangsuyuk and chicken tangsuyuk—sweet-and-sour fried meat. But this was seriously the kicker. Dip it in the sauce, eat it with the onion topping, and wow, the fried coating was honestly insane ㅠㅠ It just melted in my mouth.

Agh, we barely managed to scrape up every last bit. We were too full for a bowl of rice ㅠㅠ but we still scraped up all the nurungji (scorched rice) at the bottom of the stone plate with the metal spatula, hehe.

They also have yogurt and snacks for dessert. Yum yum on the way out—no matter how full you are, there is always room for this .. If you want to try a different kind of jjambbong and jjajang in Dong-gu, Ulsan, you really should visit. It is close to Ilsan Beach and Daewangam, and it even has parking, so highly, highly recommended.
