Busan Korean restaurant with ribs and noodles: Gang Galbitang Seomyeon

Big ribs and hot broth at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon (강갈비탕 서면)

When I’m craving a warm, hearty meal like this, galbitang (Korean beef short-rib soup) is one of the first dishes that comes to mind!

This time, I went with my group to Gang Galbitang Seomyeon (강갈비탕 서면). The restaurant’s name makes its signature dish perfectly clear, so I was already looking forward to seeing what kind of galbitang would arrive before we even went in.

After trying it, I found it truly filling as a full meal: big ribs, warm broth, noodles, and rice all together.

What are the atmosphere and seating like?

Inside, wood-toned tables and chairs paired with brick-style walls made for an overall clean, comfortable atmosphere.

Along with standard tables, there were seats lined up along the wall and facing the kitchen. It seemed great for groups, but also easy enough to visit alone for a hearty meal without feeling awkward.

Plants and decorative pieces were placed around the space, and the lighting felt warm, so I was comfortable throughout the meal.

You can order at the kiosk, which made it easy to browse the menu and order at your own pace.

Side dishes and the self-service bar

Basic side dishes also came with the galbitang.

Having side dishes in between bites of hot galbitang really refreshed the palate. It was especially nice to place a little side dish on the noodles and eat them together.

There was also a self-service bar in the restaurant.

The side dishes are served at first, then you can use the self-service bar for more water or side dishes if needed. I liked being able to take what I needed without feeling self-conscious when we ran short.

How did we eat the galbitang?

That day, everyone in our group ordered a bowl of Gang Galbitang.

It looked just right from the start, with ribs, scallions, and more generously packed into a steaming ttukbaegi (earthenware pot). The ribs were especially large, making it fun to lift them out one by one.

When I lifted a rib with my chopsticks, plenty of appetizing meat was attached to it, and it was nice to set it aside and eat separately, too.

Pulling the meat from the bone made it feel like I was properly enjoying a bowl of galbitang! The meat also paired well with a light dip in the sauce, so it was good to alternate it with the broth.

Generous complimentary noodles, too

And one thing I really liked! On the day we visited, noodles were included as a complimentary extra.

Adding the noodles to the galbitang broth had a different charm from simply mixing rice into it. Slurping up the noodles soaked in warm broth was a treat.

I sometimes topped the noodles with finely chopped scallions, and at other times added the seasoned vegetable side dish. Changing up the combinations little by little kept it enjoyable right to the end.

A bite with rice, noodles, scallions, and rib meat was extra satisfying and filling. I loved being able to enjoy one bowl of galbitang in so many ways.

Galbitang meal-kit prices and purchase information

As I looked around the restaurant, I saw that they also sold meal kits so you can enjoy Gang Galbitang at home.

According to the notice in the photo, the regular size was 1,100g for ₩13,500 and the special size was 1,350g for ₩16,500, and both can be kept frozen.

There was also a notice for free nationwide delivery when ordering four or more, plus ₩500 off each meal kit when purchased after dining at the restaurant. It is worth keeping in mind for anyone who wants to enjoy Gang Galbitang at home.

When you’re craving a hot, hearty meal

This time, everyone in our group tried a bowl of Gang Galbitang. Working through the big ribs, hot broth, complimentary noodles, and rice in turn made for a truly hearty meal.

The basic side dishes came with the meal, and we could conveniently get more at the self-service bar. The restaurant was also clean and comfortable, which made it a nice place to eat.

Especially, the sequence of picking up the ribs → adding the noodles → mixing in rice at the end was just perfect. 😂

It is a great choice not only when you want warm broth on a chilly day, but also whenever you want a properly filling meal! Gang Galbitang was a bowl I enjoyed from the ribs to the noodles and rice. 🍖🍜🍚
