Busanjin tonkatsu dinner with shrimp tempura at Katsu Gimseondo
In short
Katsu Gimseondo is a Japanese tonkatsu restaurant in Busanjin, Busan, between Seomyeon and Jeonpo. On a weekday evening, we had the half-and-half tonkatsu set and Gimseondo Set for ₩15,000 and ₩17,000, with tender pork, shrimp tempura, and soy sauce egg rice. Verdict: so tender that I finished a set meal I normally leave behind.

If you come to Seomyeon on a Busan trip, eat your tonkatsu here.

If you're planning to eat tonkatsu in Busan, I absolutely recommend this place! Their tonkatsu is different. Seriously delicious 💚 The tonkatsu prices are on the higher side. It isn't cheap. But I guarantee the taste!

Weekday evening visit and seating at Katsu Gimseondo
I visited with a friend on a weekday evening. I photographed the interior mainly where seats were empty. The open kitchen lets you check out the cleanliness. There are single-person floor seats and tables.

Salt, the menu, tissues, and chopsticks are set out on the table. Use as much as you need.

There is a coat rack in one corner of the restaurant. Use it if you need to.

Tonkatsu set menu and our order
Now, the most important thing: the menu. Mr. Gimseondo is the owner. He calls himself a “tonkatsu researcher.” No matter how much research someone has done on tonkatsu, what matters in the end is the taste, right? I was curious whether it would really be good.

The menu is divided into tonkatsu sets, sides, and drinks and alcohol.

- Half-and-half tonkatsu set ₩15,000
- Gimseondo Set ₩17,000
- Total ₩32,000
My friend and I chatted while waiting for the food. I think about 10 minutes passed after ordering.
Shrimp tempura and soy sauce egg rice in the Gimseondo Set
What is this presentation.. (so good, so good) The tonkatsu looked exactly like the photo outside the building. This was the “Gimseondo Set” my friend ordered. It is a tonkatsu meal with a variety of items, including loin, tenderloin, shrimp tempura, and fried egg.

What is this tonkatsu presentation.. The shrimp tempura is big too.

This shrimp tempura had just come out of the fryer!

This is soy sauce egg rice. Soy sauce has been drizzled over it. The egg is hard-boiled and coated in batter.

My friend said both the shrimp tempura and soy sauce egg rice were delicious!! They look delicious enough even in the photos.

Tender loin and tenderloin in the half-and-half tonkatsu
My half-and-half tonkatsu arrived first! It is a menu that mixes loin and tenderloin evenly.

Pour the dressing over the salad too. I was so, so surprised by how tender the tonkatsu pork was..
Some tonkatsu can make your jaw hurt, you know. But this one is so tender that after a few chews, it disappears in your mouth. Seriously heavenly!

There was a round piece of tonkatsu too. It tasted the same and was tender.

Why I finished a tonkatsu set I usually leave behind
Normally, I can't finish a tonkatsu set. The portion is too big. But Katsu Gimseondo's tonkatsu itself is so tender that once you put it in your mouth, it goes down so easily, gulp gulp. Haha, so I finished every last bit.

I first went to Katsu Gimseondo, between Seomyeon and Jeonpo, through a blog experience. Thanks to the blog experience, I feel like I discovered a great tonkatsu restaurant. I am very happy.
Next time I crave tonkatsu, I should come here again! I think it would also be good for a date. Visiting Busan? This is a place worth checking out in Busan! Both the tenderloin and loin are delicious, so next time I should order the loin tonkatsu set, the most reasonably priced option. Dongbaekjeon payment is accepted!
