After work in Seomyeon, I was looking for somewhere to have a hot bowl of gukbap (rice in soup) before heading home, and heard there was a place here that did great galbitang, so I went to check it out. Here’s my take on the galbitang at Gang Galbitang (강갈비탕), a popular spot for solo dining in Busan’s Seomyeon 🍲
Gang Galbitang exterior and location in Seomyeon

Gang Galbitang happened to be in Seomyeon, so I took a leisurely walk over for galbitang.

It’s close to the station and near Bujeon Market, so it seems like a great place to come for a meal—or to recover from the night before. Even the exterior had that unmistakable good-restaurant feel.
A comfortable interior for solo dining

When I went inside, I spotted people dining alone. The table layout works nicely for solo meals, as well as meals for groups of two to four.
Gang Galbitang says it makes everything by hand. They serve handmade galbitang with tender beef short ribs in a deep, rich broth made by slowly simmering fresh Korean beef bones every morning. In this cozy space, it felt like one of Seomyeon’s quietly popular hidden gems, steadily visited by diners of all ages. You could feel the staff’s enthusiasm, too!

Gang Galbitang has a solid lineup centered on galbitang, with gukbap, noodles, and suyuk (boiled sliced beef), too. Let me introduce the main dishes.

A full Gang Galbitang spread and side dishes

I ordered the Gang Galbitang. It arrived as a generous full spread with side dishes, sauce for the ribs, soup, and rice—such a great-looking meal. They also provided tongs and scissors to make it easier to eat.

There was plenty of meat in the galbitang, but what I especially loved was the generous amount of noodles. Seeing such a substantial spread put me in a good mood.
I’m so glad I came here!
The assortment of side dishes to have with the galbitang was great, too.

If you run short, you can simply get more from the self-service bar.

Deep, clean galbitang broth
I could see small pieces of ginseng on top, along with a jujube. All right, time to dig in properly! My first sip of broth was wonderfully refreshing.

Maybe because it was made by slowly simmering fresh Korean beef bones every morning, the broth was deep and rich but also clean. Every spoonful felt comforting and filling. There was lots of meat inside, and the combination of noodles and broth was especially delicious!

The plentiful meat was delicious, too. The tender beef ribs pulled apart along the grain, releasing savory juices without any gamey smell. Dipping them in the sauce added even more umami, making them even tastier.

Mixing the noodles and rice into the rich broth made for one seriously filling bowl. Isn’t this exactly why we eat galbitang? Gang Galbitang is a great solo-dining spot in Busan’s Seomyeon, and it would be good for a hangover the day after drinking, too.
A satisfying galbitang meal in Seomyeon

Busan does galbitang well, too.
That was a delicious meal. Thanks!
With fresh Korean beef-bone broth simmered every morning and tender beef ribs, this was an easy, warming meal to enjoy even when dining alone. As I looked around while eating, I noticed they also sold meal kits. Since I enjoyed my meal so much, I bought one after I finished—delicious food deserves another round at home, after all. Gang Galbitang is a solo-dining spot worth remembering whenever you want a hearty soup dish in Seomyeon. With meal kits available, you can enjoy it at home, too.
